Why have they not dispatched a sub? I go to think with their sonar and toys they could find it faster.

Seahawk 04-12-2014 02:09 PM

It is a question of where to "look". Remember, passive acoustic ranges are measures in miles, even with very sophisticated sensors.

The search area has not been fully defined until, I hope, the last few days. Mowing the ocean with a sub is very ineffective.

The ships in the search are using towed array technologies, very effective, but just as limited in the passive role. The sensors are "listening"'. That is the key. Once they have an idea where the BB is, they can employ more active sensors.

Latest update--and oddity:

Malaysian authorities have just stated that a cell tower on the west coast of Malaysia picked up a roaming signal from the co-pilot's cell phone. It was the only phone to have been detected. Long ago, phone records showed no calls were sent or received from any phones on the plane, but this information indicates that, at least, the co-pilot's phone was on, over a half and hour after the transponder went dark and the plane made a left turn. It reaffirms the westward flight of the plane and the location of the INMARSAT signals.

Naturally, it raises more questions than it answers. Out of 239 phones, only one was turned on? Typically, nearly 30% of passengers forget to turn off their phones. Did the co-pilot just forget, or did he deliberately turn it on during the flight? That could be answered by checking phone towers around the airport while the plane was taxiing for take-off. Clearly, this new information is intriguing, but a lot more digging is needed to understand what it might mean.

With all due respect, I don't think you can have much confidence in what the Malaysians have to say. Why has it taken three and half weeks to discover this information?

HOw come I say its a GIGANTIC COVER UP ?
I can see it, feel it, know it.
Its simple.
They HAVE MADE IT INTO A SHELL GAME !
Look here, no i mean here, or over here
Oh we have no radar, some radar , radar from military is too poor ( ahem, right LOL)
This is the biggest farce sense snake oil........in fact snake oil has more credibility !

their slow..
real slow..
why..pregnancies can last for years..
which are often followed by spontaneous combustion....
a 4 year degree takes a couple of hours to type up..
but if they look real hard..

they will find it at the terminal waiting to board..
aisle 30 thru 55..

The stupidest thing was about military radar not being accurate!
. Hell in WW11 is was better then what they describe what is available now.

javadog 04-14-2014 03:02 PM

I'm surprised Malaysia even has a military radar. I bet it doesn't get much use...

Two cans and a string, and the string is short.

afterburn 549 04-14-2014 03:28 PM

There ALL kind of ships all over the world with radar..even if we want to assume Malaysia did not have any , ..which would be silly.
The USA can detect a missal launch from anywhere, This whole 777 thing is a emergency, but not what they are spinning it to be, thats is for sure.
I am a little but familiar with AWAX from 30 years ago...( I am sure it has improved a 1000 fold) ........all this not knowing is just silly jabber. I am so surprised that a real military retiree has not stepped up and said THIS IS ALL B.S.!!

widgeon13 04-14-2014 03:31 PM

Political correctness gone amuck!

Jolly Amaranto 04-14-2014 03:49 PM

I like this quote from another site.
Quote:

Greg Feith, features a lot in the Air Crash Investigation series. He always appears to talk a lot of sense. I'm personally convinced (90%) that this crash was a complex sequence of issues and not malicious. However I very much agree with the statement below made by Greg.
"All the altitude changes that have been reported in the media are incorrect, he said, citing his sources. The airplane never left its cruising altitude of 35,000 ft."

Put simply, the only reliable information from the Malaysian investigators has been the flight number!

How do you know they haven't?
Field was narrowed quickly. Either very good work, or surface assets were getting a bit of help.
Just an ignorant $0.02

You're right. There's a lot of BS here, including some people's concept of the capabilities/assets in the region contrasted with the volume of air traffic in South East Asia.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1397520880.jpg

These are not all the routes in the region, just the busiest. Billions of people live in this part of the world.
Now combine the number of aircraft in the air at one time in this general region with the lack of military threat and you might get a glimmering of the likelyhood of the shut down of transponders on one flight going unnoticed.
I can guess what you mean by "missal" the spelling is "Missile".
The first thing you might want to remember about "AWAX" is that it stands for Airborne Warning And Control. It is based upon a powerful airborne radar. Unless a major fleet was running war games in the area, I doubt there were any assets of that type present.
Sorry for being such a grouch, but the amount of "Monday morning quarterbacking" going on makes me wonder at the lack of appreciation for the magnitude of the problem.

Absenting terrorism, for which so far there is no apparent evidence, Mr Burner- who gains from a gigantic cover up? Do your tea leaves give you any insight?

Your confidence that the US military can detect anything any time anywhere is admirable.

You guys are so swept away....
I wish just one real Military guy would come on here and explain all the radar, heat trails, sats, there is, and or was seeing watching EVERYTHING .
You would be quite SHOCKED !
They (mill itel knew , knows, where this thing is was.

I may spell wrong. so what.
But you are repeating rhetoric on purpose or stuff you do not understand.
Can you you show one just one air space not under surveillance at all times ? ?
I do not know if i should laugh at you or with you.but that is was SILLY!
Do you know about the RCA contracts up north ?
I will weigh in once more..........as a people we are for the most part stupid sheep led along.
You go ahead and swallow what you want........or propagate what you think you know.
But from the JUMP, the very JUMP, when they said OVER and OVER military RADAR is not that good.......I knew then , right then and there there, there is a cover up.

Quotes on conspiracy theory

Anyone who knows how difficult it is to keep a secret among three men - particularly if they are married - knows how absurd is the idea of a worldwide secret conspiracy consciously controlling all mankind by its financial power; in real, clear analysis.
-Oswald Mosley

People love conspiracy theories.
-Neil Armstrong

I think one of the reasons that we like conspiracy theories is I think that we like to feel like there is a group of people who are so smart and powerful that they can pull the wool over an entire country or in fact even an entire world's eyes. That certainly makes us feel like somehow we're protected, even if it's not in our best interest.
-Jason Ritter

As a coping mechanism, or as a way to make a little hard count by shilling demons in the shadows, I try not to belittle the thought process of the conspiracy theorists. As a cocktail waitress in Vegas once schooled me: never get down on anybody else's hustle.
-John Ridley

Whenever you're faced with an explanation of what's going on in Washington, the choice between incompetence and conspiracy, always choose incompetence.
-Charles Krauthammer

Ah, Burner. When too much hyperbole is barely enough.
