playoff hockey rocks

I don't watch many sports on TV any more. But I have to admit that playoff hockey does suck me in. Goes back to my earliest insomnia days and watching the entire "Easter Epic" back in '87. Rooting somewhat for the LA teams, but don't really care - just some great games/play going on.

I used to enjoy watching hockey...but not unlike football these days, the players seem to relish inflicting as much damage onto each other in an almost perverse manner. I think that's another reason UFC fighting has become mainstream, as we move into a de-evolution mode in America.

There's a lot of angry/bent/damaged goods in our society as a function of the breakdown of the family unit.

Me too. The playoffs are the best. It's an exicting game pkayed by the best, and they do have some kind of skill and stamina.

This CHI - STL game is amazing

Bugsinrugs 04-17-2014 08:48 PM

Sharks are kicking the Kings arse

2nd OT in STL

One of the more wise, insightful things I've read on PPOT in a while. Thank you.

You are suggesting hockey is now more violent than it used to be?

I think that's a stretch. Inflicting pain, damage, and injury is what the playoffs are all about.

Look at Jonathon Toews last night. St Louis punished him severely every shift. But that's not new, that's an annual spring ritual in hockey.

I'm in......Gotta love hockey.....Yep, what I don't watch, I record to view later.

Scott Douglas 04-18-2014 11:24 AM

I typically don't watch hockey. Seems like every time I'd turn on a game during the regular season it would end up in a fight. It also didn't help that I didn't understand the game/know any of the rules either so watching it was like my early days of watching the kids soccer games. Now that I understand a little more about the rules/strategy of the game, it's more interesting.
I did enjoy watching the playoffs last year though as there didn't seem to be as much fighting going on vs good hockey playing.
I'll have to tune in to a game soon and see how they're doing, fight-wise that is. I may end up watching again.

Playoff Hockey?

Por_sha911 04-18-2014 06:26 PM

Have the playoffs started?
The Rangers out-psyched the Flyers last night.
Triple OT games.
The Bruins and Wings with no score into the 3rd waiting to see which one will blink first.
Gosh I love this time of year.

nostatic 04-18-2014 06:53 PM

they blinked

Fights are a rarity in the playoffs.

yup. 1-0 games are a heart-breaker

what really stinks is that is the only game so far where the top seed didn't win.
I have to admit that I said up front that I would rather the Bruins play ANYONE but Detroit. The wings are the only team that has had the B's number this year (they won 3 out of 4 in regular season).

On a side note, all the digs at hockey about fighting are a joke. That's like saying I won't watch Baseball because all the pitchers do is throw fastballs at the batters heads.

JD159 04-18-2014 07:15 PM

Great game. What a move by Datsyuk just now.

Hockey is much less violent then it used to be. Whats wrong with a little fisticuffs between men in the heat of sport?

But your right, it does not reflect societies amazing evolution from physical violence inflicting pain, to manipulation, greed, corruption and the many passive ways pain is inflicted by respectable members of society.

Lets keep a little violence in sport. Shows where we came from. Although I don't like Dana White from UFC, he once said, "Your making your ancestors proud.", regarding one of the fights. That resonated with me.

It's sport. If we remove the passion and the physicality, what do we have? Remove the cheap shots, as much as you can though, to keep our players safe.

Wings vs Bruins was a good game, it could have easily gone either way.

Joe, what did you think of that ******* move by Lucic hitting Dekeyser in the nuts? I smell a fine coming.

And yes, I love this time of the year and NBC's coverage rocks.

Bill
