Do you guys do this

Since it's so simple to switch our speedometers do you guys ever buy used ones and swap your original to keep your miles or km down ?

trekkor 05-03-2014 11:09 AM

Oh, you mean, being deceptive?

Brilliant!!

livi 05-03-2014 11:10 AM

Only on my lawn mower.

flatbutt 05-03-2014 11:29 AM

that just ain't right.

dad911 05-03-2014 11:30 AM

In the 80's some models had 85 MPH speedometers. It was pretty common to swap to 150 MPH. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/660379-85mph-speedo.html

I never have, but if I did I'd put the correct mileage on the new speedometer, and take some pics.

trekkor 05-03-2014 11:33 AM

Because when you install a new speedo/odo you have a new car...

On older cars with mechanical speedos not tied to a computer, you pretty much have to take the stated mileage with a grain of salt.

Noah930 05-03-2014 11:42 AM

I'm not buying any used cars from calimedeiros...

javadog 05-03-2014 11:50 AM

No, I'm not a crook. Why would you even consider this?

That's like taping an old picture of yourself over your bathroom mirror.

calimedeiros 05-03-2014 12:09 PM

I'm not saying I did this or will do this but it is easy

aap1966 05-03-2014 12:17 PM

My daily driver (BMW 635) has done 280,000 km (174,000 miles). I take a perverse pride in the mileage done, so no.
My wife's cars have low milage anyway, but no there too. (Karma, just not cricket, etc)

Noah930 05-03-2014 12:25 PM

There are lots of ways to defraud others. But I'm not sure I would publicize them on the internet.

scottmandue 05-03-2014 12:51 PM

Do you also use you high school senior picture on your computer dating profile? ;)

mattdavis11 05-03-2014 12:55 PM

No, but mine has had but 25 miles put on the odo since I bought 12 years ago. Stuck at 18,807. The PO is my dad and it went out on him when Clinton was in office, then my fix didn't last. Just a guess, it probably has 215K, but it drives like it has 18,807.

calimedeiros 05-03-2014 01:44 PM

Like I said I'm not planing on doing it just curious if any of you guys do it or found others that do this

look 171 05-03-2014 01:51 PM

Boooooo

If you put it on blocks and get it in reverse, the speedo will run backward giving you a fairly new car. Didn't you watch Ferris Buller's day off? Just make sure you don't kick the car.

LOL.

Why not just run the car in reverse?

No way, I like the fact that I have well over a 100K on the car. The car looks like new and the motor & trans are fresh. I'm not concerned with the resale value, cause I don't think I'll ever sell it.
