This song will hit home to some..

Remember why we are cooking out, for those who didn't make it back (and some who did, but never really made it back)

I get irritated when someone says " have a happy Memorial Day!". It's not a happy day at all. God bless all those who gave so much for our country.

To all that have served - thank you.

Did we go to the cemetery to day?

wdfifteen 05-26-2014 09:55 AM

^^
I did. In our family it was always called "Decoration Day" and we all went to the cemetary to put flowers on the graves of family members. It was a solemn occasion. I think it lost some of its meaning when they changed it from May 30 to the last Monday in May. It's just another 3-day weekend to a lot of people now.

On Friday I went by the little country cemetery in Central Texas where my folks are buried. I put a flag by each marker. Here they are in uniform. Dad was in the Army Air Corps and Mom was an Army Nurse.

Sadly, I don't have any pictures of my Father in uniform (W.W.II) but here are a few of my Grandfather.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1401158989.jpg

Just came across this and had to post it. The soundtrack is probably my favorite song I can't listen to. Ten years of war, and thousands of lives lost, and STILL a single Marine Sgt comes home to this...it's what makes this country great.
