Coffee fiends. Ever quit cold turkey ?

Never knew the grips of caffeine. I stopped recently. I found myself drinking more and more. My servings were huge mugs. More like 3-4 real servings. Last cup was a great cup from some local joint (philz). I decided to try stopping because I thought I was drinking it more out of routine. Nope. Tuesday I had a huge throbbing headache right behind my eyes. This lasted until wed evening but much less severe. I think I am over it. The DT's are behind me. Crazy.

This ever happen to anyone else?

Peak withdrawal symptoms are at the 48 hour mark. You should be through the worst of it now.

What will become apparent over the next few days is how central coffee is to our culture. Once you're no longer participating in it, it's pervasiveness becomes obvious.

I know I have a problem. If don't have a cup of coffee or a coke within about 3 hours of getting up I get the headache. I had done good at getting away from soda, but even then I was heavily hitting coffee and tea.

Yes. Early on in my career (back in my 20s), I was regularly drinking office coffee, Monday through Friday. On weekends, I didn't always make it a point to drink coffee. I thought for sure I was developing a brain tumor as I suffered through my weekend fog and headaches. Then I finally realized I was an addict, and the headaches stemmed from caffine withdrawals. So I drink it seven days a week. Have cut back to two cups a day. But so long as I have at least one cup, my head is good to go.

Coffee's good for you. Why quit? Cut back, sure. I drink 2 cups a day.

Years ago I made the conscious decision to reduce my caffeine intake. Everything in moderation. Weekdays in the office I have a really good cup (coffee press + Peets) in the morning followed with a final cup around 10 AM. At home we use our espresso machine to turn out a double espresso fired Americano. Single cup enjoyed in the backyard before the day begins.

My parents are Dutch so coffee was part of my upbringing. I still love the smell, taste, the entire coffee experience.

On days that I don't get coffee, which are rare, I do notice a headache by mid day.

While deep in the throes of living in a household with two children under 3, I acquired a daily 6-7 espresso "regimen". A couple years have passed, and thanks to consistent 8hrs/night of sleeping, I'm down to 3 espressos a day. About once a month, I'll go without for a week or so without (fortunately) any withdrawal symptoms. Lucky I guess...

The same applies for those of us who have had to quit boozing for one reason or another....

I'm on about 30oz of coffee + 3 shots per day,

I -can- stop for a day or two without getting a headache,

But I've never tried for much longer than that.

My problem is that I love coffee. I'm down to one cup of high test per day and one cup of decaf. That is it.

The worse coffee withdrawal for me was SERE School in the Navy. One week in the sticks with no coffee: The headaches subsided after day three, the "other" headaches started day six.

The guys that had it bad were the coffee drinkers/heavy smokers. Lots of panic in the boonies.

I quite coffee cold turkey last Friday...not by choice.

Woke up Friday morning feeling under the weather, drank my first cup, threw up for 30 minutes and spent the rest of the day in bed with a stomach virus.

Since, I've not been able to smell, look at, or think about coffee without experiencing unbearable nausea. (I'm feeling sick writing this)

I've felt rather sluggish this week but nothing else.

I'm looking at this as a good thing; a real easy way for me to save some money.

quit for ~6 months last year after I my appendix was evicted...felt awful for reasons not related to caffeine and just stayed off. Now back on it. Would have possibly stayed off if this past winter hadn't been so feeking cold.

This is much like me... I own a French press but too lazy to use it on a work day... I grind my own fresh beans in the morning then put them through a Mr. coffee drip at work, drink two huge cups then done (with coffee) for the day.

WORD! That is my weekend coffee fix... triple shot in a big mug topped off with foamed milk, sit out on the front porch with the cats and watch the birds go by.

When I do not have coffee I don't get headaches... a couple shots of vodka take care of that

Ha ha, me too. Plus, I quit everything else, if I have to give up coffee, I may as well roll over and die. There would be nothing left.
2-3 cups every morning, and get a headache if I miss a day .

where do I begin... coffee, without it air travel would grind to a snails pace, what I realized after retiring is that I had been sleep deprived for the last 25yrs! and coffee /coke was the juice that kept us going( btw look on a bottle of excedrin that's right caffeine!!!!
