Well, looks like tough gun laws don't work so well...

Another bad weekend in Chicago. This, plus the 80+ over 4th of July weekend and I'd say they have an epidemic on their hands.

http://us.cnn.com/2014/07/21/justice/chicago-deadly-weekend/index.html?hpt=hp_t2

Perhaps they should allow everyone to have a gun to level the playing field.

Chicago, you failed!

Chicago will continue to fail until they work up the courage to address the root causes of their problems with violence. A very, very small percentage of their population is responsible for the vast majority of their violent crime. Unfortunately, any serious discussion of the population responsible will quickly see one labelled as a "racist" for even bringing it up. It's far, far easier - and politically correct in today's environment - to blame responsible gun owners (or their guns) for the violence we see in Chicago. Nothing could be further from the truth, of course, but looking at the real issues at play - primarily black on black violence among a very small percentage of the population - is politically off limits. Until we can, however, cities like Chicago are doomed to suffer.

Of course, getting very cynical for a moment, maybe this is exactly what "big brother" needs - disposable inner city blacks killing one another to drive the numbers up, and using those numbers as justification to restrict firearms ownership among the rest of society, among the population that has no such problem with gun violence. Why else would their predominantly Democratic, liberal leaders not address the true root causes of this violence, but rather use it as a political tool, as leverage, against the larger population? They sure don't seem to be very interested in helping these folks, but their unbridled zeal in restricting the rights of others cannot be overlooked.

Because they don't care about doing what's right, they care about being re-elected. That's the demographic that voted many of them into office, and we all know that you don't bite the hand that feeds you. The police superintendent blamed weak gun laws for the outbreak in violence - really? Because I'm fairly certain that the police are responsible for preventing crime, perhaps a look in the mirror should be in order?

Exactly.

What's becoming the downfall of society is that being politically correct has overcome making correct decisions.

i.e Placing a ban on high capacity magazines in CT. Pure political stunt following the Sandy Hook shooting, accomplished absolutely nothing for the common good, puts lot$ of $ into CT governments pocket.

You should have seen the line out the door at the State Police building of all the criminals, lined up, trying to register their illegal and unregistered firearms before the law went into effect.

Weak gun laws in Chicago? I think Australia is more lenient with firearms owners. I wonder how many of those guns used were legally owned.
