I met the sweetest GSD pup today...

This is gonna be tough for me as time goes on. I met a musician friend of mine's puppy for the first time today, and like all dogs, she became my bestest buddy right off the bat. I went over to his house and "asked" to be introduced to her as she's now about 5 months old and I hadn't met her yet. So the puppy and I just got along splendidly....the downside....she's gonna be a "working dog" (he's losing his vision) and I'll probably only see her again when she's "working". What a sweetie she was....I'm gonna regret not being able to interact with her as time goes on and I see "them" outside of their house . She's not the first seeing eye dog I've been around...the other was a 10 yo lab that probably "saw" my favorite band play more times than I did several years ago. They just amaze me...

Nothing quite like the feeling like coming home to something that never has a bad day and is always happy to see you. Unconditional love. Crazy how much your life will change with a "dumb animal". What are you waiting for? :D

My GSD / lab sisters:

We lost our purebred GSD in 2010, he was just short of 10 years old. Still miss that guy every day. Have not taken the plunge on another puppy yet. Great pic!

As a dog lover who is not hip to TLA (three letter acronyms) what does GSD stand for?

vash 08-13-2014 07:41 AM

German Shepard dog. I think.

Yep. One of my favorite breeds.

I was a bit surprised. We had five dogs and none of them maned up enough to chase the ducks and get us told off ;) In fact the ducks were a bit curious of the dogs and kept following them - argh, the modern dog.

Our lab would have been stalking the ducks. Even at the state park on a leash she tried to leap into the water taking me with her when they got close enough. Had the leash not been on her harness, she would have had one of them. She would go dead still, then into stalk mode but in this case she went from dead still to attack since they swam close enough to bypass stalk mode. A dog can get a LOT of momentum going on 15' of leash.

We miss her every day. Our new lab runs from the Robins in the yard.

I had a Schnauzer who loved chasing ducks and geese. We were walking along a small river about 8 years ago, it was about 50 feet across and there were 20 feet of ice along each shore. She saw a duck in the open water and went for it. She fell through the ice about 15 feet from shore and I had to go in after her. I caught her under the ice a few feet downstream from where she went through and brought her to shore. I came so close to losing her ...
