Thank You PPOT

Just wanted to say Thank You to the PPOT family. While I do not post much, I do check in and read most of the forums on Pelican often, especially this one. There are many different personalities and opinions here and I derive much from them all. I even swim in PARF occasionally but never post there.

These past two weeks have probably been the most trying for me in my 47 years taking up space on this earth. While I have lots of support and love in my life, PPOT has many times given me a place to come and put aside for a brief moment those things that are troubling me, let me regroup and rethink, and then refocus on that which needs it. I have saved many links to posts and opinions that I find valuable and refer back to them often. This has been very needed these past weeks.

So with out any real detail, just know that this forum has helped me get through both fantastic and hard times. No more so then these past weeks and days.

So Thank You PPOT for being there the way only PPOT can.

And if any of you are in the greater SB area let me know and the first one is one me.

Well said Dan. This month has been a rough one for me as well. And catching some laughs here and talking with friends made through pelican has helped get me through.

Like family, we often both love and hate each other here. I'm glad to know PPOT is a place we all come to be us, and that makes it an okay place to hang out. Whatever we can do for you, Dan, we're all here to help. Even if what we do to help is argue and show our disfunctions.

Dan, I am just down the road buddy. Ping me any time! Hope you are ok!

Great to hear from you, Dan, sorry to hear of the rough patch. I remember you so well from the fun times at the track back in the early 2000s, you're a great guy. If there is ever anything I can do for you, please let me know.

Don Ro 09-25-2014 08:58 PM

Well put, Dan.

Dan, I was just thinking today about that time you took me to an awesome lunch and then for a ride around SB in your awesome Targa. Will never forget it. Be well.

Yeah, PPOT is a great place to "get away".

(Of course, if you're ever feeling too upbeat, just pay PARF a visit!)

Sorry things are rough right now. What's the old saying - "the night is always darkest just before the dawn". I've had a tough year at times, this is a fantastic place to vent, seek advice, or just escape. It will get better!

Porsche-O-Phile 09-26-2014 02:53 AM

All the best to you. Bubble in the middle.

herr_oberst 09-26-2014 05:10 AM

Here's hoping things are looking up, friend.

Good luck to you and yours!

Jeff Higgins 09-26-2014 06:33 AM

Sorry to hear of your troubles, Dan. I sure hope things start looking up for you soon. Best wishes.

Thanks for the support guys, it is appreciated greatly.

Life is humbling at times and then other times she lands one square on the chin. This bump will only serve to make me stronger and more determined.

Going to unplug this weekend and take my wife and kids camping at a Vintage Trailer Rally. Reboot and come out swinging in the next round.

When life gives you lemons,

That sounds awesome right there; you're a rich man, my friend.

Best wishes and enjoy the lemonade buddy! SmileWavy

Feel the same way about the people here. Great place to pass time, learn new things, and share with others.

:( the only advice I have is whenever I get overwhelmed about this little thing we call life, I always tell myself that it will only last a little while. Truly. It seems like it will be forever but in the grand scheme of things, things usually are temporary. And then I make a conscious effort to not think about anything except for the moment that I am and appreciate for all it's worth. It's easy to get caught up with all the stuff happening in your life but when you take a step back, clarity shows you there are more things to appreciate and revel in rather than feel sad or mad about.

I have no idea what is troubling you but we are all here for you. Many pelicans have been there for me and the least l can do is repay the favor... One pelican at a time. Hugs and enjoy your time with your family.

One sure cure for anything that brings you down is your own coaster. Try one out and see! Don't settle for one of those cardboard throwaways. You deserve something better!

And remember - it's ok to coast alone but it's even better to coast with another!!!

"If you're coasting, you must be going downhill." ~ Can't remember where I heard that.

A quick update on my situation. After an unplugged weekend with my family celebrating my sons 17th birthday and my 19th year of marriage to the most wonderful woman, I was able to refocus a bit on my present dilemmas.
After much thought I have cleared some fog and broke this down into 3 areas ( it's how I work )

First is business. I run a manage a small business and my employees are like family. I take pride in providing a work environment that they can enjoy and excel in. Recent interactions have put me in a position to put my personal compensation and my job above what I believe is right. I chose what is right and now it will cost me financially and possibly the career I have had since I was 19. How much or to what extent is hard to predict but I know I made the right choice and in the process protected my employees from any hardship.

Second is family and friends. Within the last month I have had to say goodbye to both friends and family to soon. Some I have had to rescue from the same fate. Nuff said.

Third is me. I have forgotten to take care of myself. Working 12 to 16 hour days, always being there for those that ask and never being an absent father, son or husband has taken its toll. My wife was the one who really sat me down and put it to me straight. "We can't love or support YOU and YOU can't love and support us if YOU are not here."

So I am now making some life changes that will put some focus on my needs.

No one said life would be easy ;-)

Thanks for all the Pelican Support.

( I recently also bought myself a coaster just so you know)

Dan

Life isn't supposed to be easy, but it's not supposed to be a monumental struggle, either!

Here's to balance!

(And you know, Mike would have sent you a free coaster... Might not be too late - one for the wife who supported you even though you weren't always there for her!)

Good luck, buddy...
