Legendary Cream bassist/singer Jack Bruce died today of liver disease. He was 71 years old.

His family said in a statement: "It is with great sadness that we, Jack's family, announce the passing of our beloved Jack: husband, father, granddad, and all round legend. The world of music will be a poorer place without him but he lives on in his music and forever in our hearts."

This one hurts.

Would you believe I was asked "Who's Jack Bruce?" today? I wanted to die...

Holy cow! I am getting old. Saw Cream twice at Winterland in the sixties. RIP

Sorry to hear this - what a legendary artist......and what a body of work he left behind.

Rest In Peace, Jack.....your legacy lives on.

This is a blow...we lost one talented musician.

Rip. the whole banned was awesome at the reunion show. I watch that DVD all the time and jack kicked butt.

I have that DVD... hopefully my wife will go run some errands this weekend so I can crank it up. :D

OK, when I first saw the thread I thought, "Jack Bruce?" Then a face palm. I wore the grooves out of Disraeli Gears and Wheels of Fire. I don't know why I didn't immediately recognize his name. Old age I guess.

I think each of the three "made" the group. That's what made them a super group. Plus, they worked well together.

Somewhat ironic for me.

I drove with some coworkers out to lunch on Friday and put Cream on. They'd never heard of it. (20-somethings.) They knew Clapton, but not Bruce or Baker.

When "White Room" came on, I explained that the song was mimicking the sounds of a steam engine: the kazoos where the whistle, the tympanies were steam pistons starting to move, and the drumming was the train shifting, swaying, and moving through crossings and switches.

While cruising around YouTube yesterday, sippin' on some Cream, watched an interesting interview vid. Apparently, early on, all three were each others' favorite artist. They all respected each other, etc., so they hooked-up.
Maybe I'll go back 'n look for it.
