I'm not sure I'd have any discussion with the guy.

when it comes to unlawful things you keep your mouth shut, stay out of it and behave as if everyone is wearing a wire. IOW toss the grenade back and walk away.

Never happened. Move on.

Pretty sure it is against the law to open someone else's mail. Accident or not.

I would have done what you did.

But wait until you find out that the old guy's name is not Denis, your Denis will have some 'splainin to do.

I will have a discussion with him for sure. I am pissed he put me in this position. Package did not require a signature.

He knew the package was coming, almost certainly knew what it was. I would talk to him, but that is as far as it would go. Maybe give him a recipe for brownies or something.

you did the right thing..

I would also inform Denis..
it's amazing..
that another Denis with on N works in the same building...
thankfully you knew he was expecting a pkg..
and made sure it went to the proper D..
as it could have easily been given to the other Denis..

UPDATE......I stepped outside this afternoon and Denis the dude from upstairs was waiting for his boss to pick him up. I did not know he was there. I started to rub my lower back due to stiffness and I heard, "what's the matter, your back's hurting?" So I whip around and he's leaning on the building, because he really can't stand. I tell him yeah and go into my woes, spinal surgery, muscle problems, etc. It was cold and damp today. I say that when the weather starts to change I really feel it in my bones. Denis responds with, "yeah, I know what you mean, look at me".

He starts to tell my about how screwed up he is. The guy tells me that he had bone cancer in 1990 which he had to have a load of surgeries for. He tells me about tumors and bones put together with plates, screws and rods. He tells me that he has more hardware in him than the hardware guy across the street. BTW, he had kidney cancer at the same time.

He asks me what I do for the chronic pain,I tell him Aleve but I self medicate sometimes with Bourbon. Denis tells me that he does as well.

There you have it ladies and gents.........self medication for a crippled soul.
