A parts question for you guys
Been gone for a while and the last I heard we cannot post in for sale and have any comments or replies, so am posting this parts question here.
Am finally pretty happy with the backdate of our 1985 Targa into a 1973 replica, so now its time to get rid of some parts that I am not using anymore. First I have a very nice set of SSI's that have been "dimpled" to fit on a 3.6 engine. Will still work on the earlier models as well. Thick flanges. Second have a stainless steel Dansk "Banana" muffler thats in good used condition. Part number 911.111.025.01 All three of these pieces worked great on my 2.7, then 3.0 and finally my 3.2 engines but with the 3.6 decided to go with something bigger (B&B) as the larger engine needed bigger tubing. Lastly a stainless B K fire extinguisher mount that fits under the seat on the 911. Now that I have a stabilizer bar between the Targa bar that has a extinguisher mount this is surplus to my needs. Can someone (or lots of folks) please give me a ballpark idea on pricing for these items. Do not want to stick them on the for sale forum and give them away but not trying to finance Christmas either! Once I get an idea of pricing will then put an advert in the parts section! Thanks, Joe A |
The SSi's are still worth a $1,000 ish. Depending on condition I'd start at $1,200 and see where it goes.
Dansk, $300? That's what I seem to recall them going for. BTW, how ya been? |

Ask $2k, no lower than $1.5k in-hand. |
SM,
Thanks and doing great, just working a lot and busy. Trying to stash enough $$ away to retire a couple of years early.... say in two years at 64. Finally got the 911 where I want it and no need for these extra parts! :) Hows life in Texas? You and Mike staying out of trouble? Joe A |
Silber,
So your feeling is that the SSI's are worth around $2000 a pair? These are an original set and in good used condition. Any idea on the stainless Dansk muffler? Thx, Joe A |
Hey Joe, how are you doing these days.
I would start with: SSI's: $2K (if real SSI...Dansk bought them some time ago) Muffler, polished: $600, painted: $350, really need pics to say. BK Mount: $150 |
Hmm, guess prices are coming back.
Sold SSI's with an MK a year ago and had no takers in that price range. |
Thanks Shaun,
Yes these are the older SSI's I believe but how do you confirm? I have had them on the car for a good 15 years now. Stampings or name anywhere to make sure? Its the polished stainless muffler, almost a work of art and hate to let it go but it will not go on what I have now and I am down-sizing... Been doing fine, just real busy with the flying and other projects. Am restoring a 1978 Volvo 242GT, just like the one that I used to have back in 1978... and working on some of the motorcycles so staying busy and out of trouble... Hope you are doing well and ready for the cold front heading your way tomorrow... Thx, Joe |
Hey Joe, if the SSIs are 15 years old they are definitely not Dansk repros. They only bought SSI more recently.
I can't believe these prices. I paid $300 for a perfect used pair of SSIs back in '02, I think they were about $800 new then. Wow. |
Good to hear it Joe! If the SSI's are that old, they are definitely old school originals. But if used for 15 years, I think $1500 is probably more reasonable. Polished muffler, if nice, start at $700 and see where that takes you. You'll get a lot of offers for $450 and $500.
Post some pics of your 242GT! |
Hey Joe, how about some pics of the backdated Targa?
I'm with Shaun, start around $1500 for the SSIs and somewhere north of $500 for the muffler if it's mint. You can always come down in price. I paid about $400 last year for a Carrera B&B 2-out that was solid but no longer shiny and polished. No idea on the fire extinguisher mount, maybe $50? If I'm not sure I typically ask about 60% of new price for used parts. |
Shaun,
Here you go... its a "true barn find" and has been sitting on a ranch in NorCal the last 10 years after the owner passed. He was a Volvo fan and had several of them that his sister had been driving then slowly selling off. This one needed a fuel pump so it was left sitting... so low mileage and absolutely no rust. I found several all around the country but every other GT had bad rust and thats a deal killer for me. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1415544268.jpg Came with the rare sport instruments http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1415544295.jpg Ready for the trip home http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1415544343.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1415544376.jpg Already have the larger IPD sways, Bilsteins, polished Virgo wheels and a 1984 factory turbo mounted on a manifold ready to bolt on the engine. Loved the one I bought new in 1978 and this one should be a lot of fun as well! Will never sell the 911 (I think) but need a daily driver and this one should fit the bill! |
Matt,
This is what the 911 looks like now. Finished except for the interior, it has a factory fiberglass hardtop (also have a like new Targa soft top just overhauled by Dan Petchel), original H-1 headlights, turbo fuch's wheels. Full 1973 bodywork from MA Shaw except for a set of original steel front fenders from a 1972 911. Also the old "short hood impact bumper nose" was removed and an original 1972 911 nose was professionally installed by Patrick Motorsports here in Phoenix. Last fall the entire suspension was removed and overhauled. Netrix bushings, 22/29 rally T-bars, Bilsteins, new calipers, rotors and pads hooked up with stainless steel brake lines. Finally the car was lowered and corner balanced. Its a LOT of fun and nice car to drive. Two summers ago we did the entire A/C system and it still years later blows 40 degree temps out of the vents, so very nice here in Phoenix during the summers. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1415544972.jpg Did you ever find a new gig? Sure hope so.... |
Not exactly a shining endorsement of Dansk is it?
|
The Targa looks great, well done. As for my new gig, I decided to do something I enjoy....
