This just in from my brother who's hip and joint problems were so bad that he got a medical discharge from the US Navy years ago.

Ginger Root and Turmeric

Near instantaneous results, huge improvements in less than 24 hours.

Co-verified and reported by his sister in law with arthritis as well.

They are taking the pills, but I suppose the original tea and spice versions would work as well.

A second vote for Turmeric/Curcumin along with L-Arginine, I had great results and Dr. Oz says L-Arginine works like Viagra

Thanks for the tip. I'll be ordering some ginger and turmeric. I eat curry based on advice from my gastro doc. It's supposed to be good for my Crohns (inflammation).

Same results for me. However, it is arthritis from blowing my knee out and it's bone on bone on one side of my right knee. I could actually squat down after taking it for several weeks with only a non-painful sensation of stiffness. It was heaven.

As a PT working with patients daily, previously with Outpatients (dealing with knee OA prior to needing TKA) and now with Geriatrics currently needing joint replacements, I've worked with hundreds of patients whom have claimed to take these supplements. While clinical observation without the benefits of ie double blind research studies to conclusively confirm or refute results is not ideal, I've found that >50% of patients report positive results from Glucosamine-Chondroitin supplements when taken daily and long term (>3-6 months).

By positive results, I mean a direct correlation between taking the supplements and changing no other variables such as pain meds, diet, ect. I also mean measurable improvements in pain scale, quality of life standardized measurement tools , and reported improvements in quality of life, such as activities of daily living, gait distance and endurance, reliance upon a gait device, ect.

The patients which seem to benefit the most from these oral supplements are younger patient populations whom are more physically active and proactive in leading a healthy lifestyle. In other words, obese individuals that lie around on the couch most of their lives and wait for the problem to progress until they have bone on bone contact in their joints will not benefit from these supplements, only from TKA, or total knee replacement surgery.

UPDATE......I have been taking Tumeric for the past 10 days. All I can say is wow, what a difference!

I am as close to pain free as I have ever been in the past 10 years. My joint pain disappeared in a few days. Hell, even my knees feel fine.

I would come home and would have trouble getting out of the car every night. My body just ached to the core. The deep joint pain is gone.

Thanks a million kach22i!!!! It really works (for me) your milage may vary.

I tried Curcumin/Turmeric. No relief for hip pain from arthritis. (took it for one year)

Tried Ginger. No relief. Again, one year.

Can't drink bourbon cuz I can't stop once I start.

Then I tried Glucosamine / Chondroitin /Methylsulfonylmethane. (1500/1500/500)

3 pills at the end of each day

80% pain relief after one month (one 90 count bottle)

If I'm on my feet all day like on a weekend or something, I will need ibu to knock back the soreness so I can sleep, but I have a desk job, so on my feet all day is not every day.

My orthopedic surgeon never suggested it, he just told me to take ibu. When I was up needing ibu 3 times a day, then it was time for a shot of corticosteroids. I could have three of those over time, then under the knife for a new hip, and my other hip would soon follow.

I'm not into woo-woo medicine at all, but I hate the idea of ibu every day for chronic pain, that's why I was willing to search out a more holistic approach.

I don't know if this will last, but the relief is real and I'm grateful for it....

Both my gastro and CR doc told me to take tumeric a few yeears ago. I did not take a sullpement only eating more dishes with curry.

I saw my pain management doc this past Wedensday. I told him about the tumeric and that I feel so much better. I thought he would dismiss me, but he too agreed and told me that he just started carrying a line of supplements. He recommended Kapp Arest made by Biotonis Research,

I am starting to take the kapp Arest tomorrow. Hopefully it will work as well or better than straight tumeric.

I use osteo biflex for my back pain (bad discs) and it helps prevent sciatica and locking up.
I can feel all my joints have better mobility after about 2 weeks. The way I understand it, sulfur compounds act as a joint lubricant.
