Plan B for Christmas present for wife- a tablet

Plan A is exercise equipment in another post I started this morning. Plan B would be a tablet for the wife. Primarily to view email, search the net and some social media. She currently has a Galaxy phone if that matters. So any suggestions for a decent 7-8 " tablet ? I see Amazon has Kindle 7 " for 114.00 just as a reference. My price point I would say is up to 200.00 as she has the phone and a laptop as backup. She also has a Gmail email account if that matters. Seems like shopping was simpler back in the day :D .

Would she like one of the pablets like a note phone or the mega? Make it all inclusive?

Nexus7, 2013 model in 32gb.

Best bang for the buck In a 7 inch tablet in that price point.

We also have the nexus 7 32GB. In retrospect, we are Amazon Prime members and would have had most likely enjoyed the Kindle Fire for its integration of our membership.

Definitely, I think the price just dropped because they announced the new models

I recently bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab4 in 7" and it works well. I think the Nexus is a better tablet; I choose the Samsung because it does have an integrated microSD slot (I have a lot of reference docs for work that get put on a card and swapped in/out frequently).

There is absolutely nothing out there that beats the IPad Air 2 for your purposes. It is blazing fast, light weight, intuitive to use, has long battery life, a fantastic camera, a beautiful display, tons of available aps (many are free), etc. You can use it to make amazing video phone calls through wifi, etc. They don't have most of the problem that a windows book does like susceptibility to trojans, viruses, etc. Unfortunately, it is over twice your budget. If you can swing the bucks, IMHO, it is well worth it. They are $50 off now at BestBuy and WalMart.

Agreed. I did a post here about 6 months ago almost identical to yours about a 7" tablet to replace the wife's color nook......After input here, I did the 2012 Nexus 7 and she loves it, I paid $124 for a refurbished......I wish I knew then what I know now and had gotten the 2013 model.......Besides being faster, it has a front and rear camera.....get the 2013 32 gb, many on Ebay and Amazon.

I wouldn't waste $$ in a Kindle again. Given she already uses and Android based phone, I agree completely with the suggestions for the Nexus or Galaxy tablet.

Today I bought a Samsung 10 Pro on sale at Best Buy. Also purchased a 64mb SD card so she'll be set for a while. They had one on display it has amazing clarity on the screen and the 10 " is a good size for viewing. Hope she likes it ! :D

LakeCleElum 12-19-2014 12:57 PM

Sounds like a good choice.......64 Card will last her forever.......

$189

Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 GSM Tablet - Computers.Woot

This is a very very good Samsung Tablet. Your wife is already familiar with how it works with the phone. You want them to work in a similar way.

Didn't see you'd made a purchase. That is also a good one, for 10"

cjannelli 12-19-2014 06:13 PM

Very funny! In my line of work plan B is the "morning after" pill....or tablet!

Seeing that she already has a Samsung Galaxy Android phone and likes it I figured staying with a Galaxy tablet was a good move. What about cases ? Do they really help protect the tablet in case of a drop or ?

red-beard 12-20-2014 04:03 AM

Very much so.

On tablet so can't get a link, but I prefer this case

Exact Buckler Series Slim-Fit Multi-angle Stand Case for Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro TabPRO 8.4 Black

Of course you should get the 10" one

I think I'll let her pick out the case once she see's the tablet. Too many styles/types. I found one that had a wireless bluetooth keyboard with the case for 25.00 . I thought that might be nice but it looked a little " industrial " .
