Jaguar gets it

Jaguar bringing a manual transmission to the F type:

While the Jaguar eight-speed automatic transmission offers an excellent blend of shift speed, comfort and refinement, there will always be a select group of enthusiasts who want the satisfaction which comes from changing gear manually. To meet that demand, a six-speed manual transmission is now exclusively available for the V6 and rear-wheel drive (RWD) configuration. The car features a short-throw gear lever with a travel of only 1.77-inches (45mm), closely-spaced ratios, and pedals well placed for heel-and-toe changes.

Starting at $65,000 for a coupe with a manual tranny. I think I would pick this over a 991 (although I should say I've never had any interest in a 991 anyway).

For "hooning around", the manual would be a must.

For tracking, I'd rather have Porsche's PDK. Street driving, its hard for me to move away from a manual.

The Jaguar XK8 didn't have a manual available? What about the XK?

I guess Jaguar sees a huge opportunity as other manufacturers move away from the manual tranny, to attract a new fan base for their cars.

Getting it would seem to be offering it with the V8, no?

Good move, helps them to seriously compete with the Cayman/Boxster. For me a manual is just more fun, and fun is why I like sports cars.

I suspect they may not have a manual readily available that can handle the V8. They haven't offered a manual in any recent model that I can recall, not the XK, XJ, or XF.

I was on the fence about getting a 2016 R. But, not only do they not offer the v8 with a manual, but they only offer it in AWD.

That said, RW is what this car needs and the 8 speed ZF is a sweet transmission.

While at it, do they have a delete all the gizmo dashboard / console garbage?

Believe me, once you turn off the infotainment system (who needs it with that engine noise), there really aren't that many buttons. The layout is pretty sparse.

I hope there isn't a panty wrapped around the axle issue, from what I read!!
