and to think i was going to post a question to the group about how to replace my 2.4 with a V-8.............glad i waited for THAT post.

Rouxzy 10-17-2002 04:17 PM

I've been reading comments here for quite a while but just recently registered. It is quite comical how anyone can get as pissed off as some do from someone who they don't know can't see and have no idea who or what they are all about. Sound familar? Road Rage! To take things that serious makes for a shortend life, and an unhappy one at that. If you can't take it then feel free to go, but remember don't let the door hit you in the brains on the way out.

Sarah, if you search you won't find the original (long) thread as it was removed. Let's just say it was interesting, there is a wide variety of opinion concerning marriage to be found here, and a fine time was had by all. Even after that I continued to be "decision challenged", so pot shots (mostly warranted) continued. Luckily I came through in the end.

Funny thing about people posting about how people post too much here. As for me, I like to think of this place as a continual family reunion. Sure, it sucks now and then, but it is also fun to sit back on occasion and remember what went on in the past. Then again, I don't get out much.

That being said, none of you guys are in my will, so don't get any ideas :p

APKhaos 10-17-2002 04:39 PM

Patience, perspective, and plenty of humor.
NoGonads is a great example to anyone who is too sensitive to mix it with this crowd.

Hell, its only a special interest BBS - nothing ego threatening!

If I recall, ThrownTool has recently had a raft of help sorting out his ignition cut-out problems - he even opened a 'thanks' thread! To jump off the twig shortly thereafter simply because of a tongue-in-cheek snipe at his car's aftermarket burden is just plain over-reaction.

There's plenty of good will here, and plenty of ribbing. Its all part of the deal. No need to take it outside and get serious.

If the hammer chucker wants to sulk, let him sulk.
I hope he'll be back - we need the outliers as well:rolleyes:

Thanks from me to the member's board...You know how to reject the flamers, while still accepting the not so bright. I only wish the webmaster of the early 911S registry board had done the same. That said...thrown-hammer, don't go away mad just because we don't appreciate what looked "hot" back in the '80's....hell, fads come & go... Strosek just isn't "in" right now. Also, it's true...my box stock '72S would probably blow the doors off a car like a strosek bodied mid '70's 911....and they, the board members here, know that. That doesn't mean they don't like you. It only means you have more to learn. Maybe the lesson is a bit too nasty?

Thank you. The funny thing about this board is that people post at least once a day making fun of cars on ebay that look just like thrown_hammer's, and then they get upset when a few people on the board say the same thing about one of the board member's cars. I'm sure a few of those people that we have all ridiculed on ebay were members of this board. So, I see little difference - nothing like a little hypocrisy to liven things up.

I've seen pictures of thrown_hammer's car for a long time and have never commented because I did think it was rude. Today, I started by saying that I never liked the Strosek conversions - nothing against thrown_hammer, just an opinion of mine. A few people backed me up. Then, when thrown_hammer decided to, as he said, "take his ball and leave", the gloves came off. Even then, I was not as critical as some of the other people that posted here. Is it rude? Maybe, but I think acting like a child and quitting is a little rude too. Besides, we are entitled to our opinions. I have been ridiculed (and rightly so) for asking stupid questions, but that's how it goes in a board like this. If you can't take a little abuse, then it's probably better that you and your ball left.

jeff m 10-17-2002 07:58 PM

If I remember correctly it was "I'm selling my car and I'd like to offer it to you guys first" That's not quite the same as a for sale ad! Which I'm sure would have followed either in the correct place or on e-bay or both.

It's no different to someone posting an e-bay ad then getting sombody to link it. That's a real ad.

Am I in trouble yet?

He wasn't probably expecting such a string of negatives, which basically all said that they prefered their own car to his. Had they been technical critisisms I think it would have been different.

Do I now have to post under a different name?
Or am I still ok!

Jeff
911T

Jack Olsen 10-17-2002 08:21 PM

You're fine, Jeff. When it was just his intial ad, I saw it, and let it stay. Then, when he was discouraging discussion of the car (whether that discussion was rude or not is a separate issue), it started to look different, to me. His quote was "I didn't post the car for sale to find out who DOESN'T like it."

That's suggesting his only reason for posting was to sell the car. That's fine, but it doesn't belong in this forum. It belongs in the classifieds.

jeff m 10-17-2002 08:46 PM

I'm sure you did the right thing, my post was to put a more moderate perspective on what happenned, as some people were posting comments without.... well without something.

Maybe I could have some fun here, think I'll link to some terrible 911T and just give enough hints that it could be mine, then just let them flail away,
Just kidding

Tear 'em up, Jack. I got chore back, maign.

I have little patience for people who post pics of their cars and then throw a hissy (or, well, a hammer...) if someone critiques it. It's the interweb. Get your toughskins on.

Kevin Stewart 10-17-2002 09:04 PM

Hammer i signed up a couple years ago posted a few times and then someone was lets just say not very nice, more like down right rude, and i basicaly said f it to this board for a couple years, well when i came back it was the same ol stuff but a different day with several people that have manners of a 5 year old, i really dont even think they own a Porsche, so i have learned who the idiots are and stay away from them, so now i like the bbs, but i stay out of all the $hit, remember all the stories about my car:D well some people dont understand that some cars are better off to be hot rodded, like both our cars, neither car was worth trying to take back to a perfect/daily driver, so both were hot rodded, i havent understood yet why people will rip someones car up just because its no stock, but its ok to put a 3.6 in, the problem with a hot rod is, the accesories some times date a car, there are a ton of things to bring up to date with out changeing the body you have, I originaly had a set of slant nose fenders for my car and all I heard was boy your dateing your car, well so what, so I have nothing but respect for people who keep these old cars on the road by hotrodding or stock. but again not all cars can be returned to stock, remember that, for those of you who want to ripe on my car heres a link its the yellow one, it started as a black 1982 sc targa, Kevin, by the way hang around just be selective when you post

Is your life that dull that you can actually recall what goes on in someone else's life, Man thats pathetic!!!!

Nah, I'm just hella sweet smart ;)

I do rmember the marriage discussion before nostatic's.

The member still posts (and is a stand-up guy) so I'm not gonna dig it up, but I remember thinking of that post as I bought a whole 0.6 carat diamond ring for my fiance (and thought it looked big enough and she is 6ft tall)...

collegeguy 10-17-2002 09:12 PM

Too funny

I swear y'all were put on this Earth simply to amuse me. It never fails. Listen to some of you--whining about the whiner.

nostatic 10-17-2002 09:13 PM

That was motion I believe, and it was followed later up by the parting of the marital seas (not too many months after my debacle).

Here's to being hella-smart and having a pornographic memory!

N11Porsche 10-17-2002 10:26 PM

No one post a picture of their P-Car on this board, because they want to read another member's post, trashing their car. I don't think, because someone does post a picture, that we should feel we have the right to trash their car. Now, if someone ask for an opinion, that's another ballgame. Thrown Hammer posted a picture because he felt some board members might be interested in buying his "pride & joy". He did this as a favor (whether you like his car or not) to his fellow board members. Others have done the same on this board.

We have all see other member's P-Car pictures on this board, than we don't care for. So what's the harm in keeping our opinions to ourselves. My P-Car is Mocha Brown, a color which a lot of people don't like. If someone is asking, what other's think about P-Car colors, it doesn't bother me if guys knock Mocha Brown. It would bother me, if every time I posted a picture of my P-Car someone made a rude remark about the color.............

I don't think it has anything to do with being over-sensative. It has to do with being rude. That's my take on it and I am sticking to it. :D

My Father used to say "If you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything at all."

On the other hand if you are going to post something in a public forum you must be prepared to take the good with the bad. Take your skirt off and be a man, it isn't a personal attack Thrown Hammer and I'm certain nobody here is trying to make you feel bad. You just happen to be on a board where the early car is king and you are a minority.

No matter what stay true to what you like. No one will ever truly care but you.

Kinda reminds me of "No Rain"

Sincerely,
-JB

Wait just a minute! A few posts ago you were praising pelican heads for helping you with your redline. Take the good with the bad.

So then this guy Dave walks in on the thread and says "Wuzza guys check out these hella-sweet Cibies I just scored on eBay..."

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1867128287&rd=1

And then the guys in the thread say, "Those ARE hella-sweet. Nice score! But Dave, why are you telling us in this thread, this is the thread In Which We Discuss Our Feelings and Reminisce About Other Great OT Threads Of Yore"

And Dave says "What are you talking about?! I'm telling EVERYbody!!"

:p

This threads an embarrassment.

Where's a moderator when you really need one! Take this to OT as its not a technical discussion.;) http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/boxen.gif

I had a bad day yesterday. That's all I care to say about that matter.
I admit I acted a little childish yesterday and learned a valuable lesson about fighting fire with fire.
I'll be around. I went home and dug out a sheild and helmet.

did someone mention porn?

Lothar 10-18-2002 08:53 AM

After reviewing Hammer's post offering his car for sale, I have concluded the following:

1. It was OT but understandable. It could have been moved immediately and that might have been the end of it.

2. The negative comments about the car were not necessary and rather rude. I don't go rummaging through Auto Trader or the news paper classifieds to call people up to tell them I don't like their stuff or I'm not interested.

Lots of people post pictures and descriptions of their cars before during and after doing a lot of work on their cars. When I see a nicely prepared Targa, I admire the effort, skill and craftsmanship that went into the project. I compliment the owner on the quality of the work.

I do not reply by saying: I don't like Targas! So a targa is not my preference but what do I know. That's just my opinion and I won't ask anyone to subscribe to or agree with my subjective opinion. Those who contributed to the insulting response owe an appology for such insensitivity.

For the record: I am just fine with making fun of some of those rediculous eBay ads. Some of them are truly butt-ugly.

Z-man 10-18-2002 10:19 AM

Geez: many of you 911 owners call us 944 owners childish, rude and immature! What's that phrase? Something about the pot calling the kettle black????

94-something or other

not many of us "911" guys visit the 94-whatever site, seems that you guys do most of the crossover visitation. kinda like how when in highschool when the JV team would hang around to watch the varsity game.

Sarah 10-18-2002 11:15 AM

Surflvr911sc - Heeeyyyyy I got rid of that neon green Chevette a long time ago!! ;) But...every time I see one of those new neon green vw bugs the color gives me "flash backs." :p

Nostatic - I think you should add the word "resilient" to your profile.

Speaking of marriage counseling on 911 boards...there was a pretty interesting thread on the Rennlist OT board not too long ago that had lots of good/interesting advice and only a few flamers.

thrown_hammer - Glad you decided to "get back on the horse" http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/wat6.gif

See what I mean? yeesh...

And, aparently that's not so true: in a recent <albeit stupid> thread on the 944 board, people were asked to vote for which car is better: a 911 or a 944, and many, many 911 owners came over to "rock the vote."
See post on 911 board: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?threadid=81689

So, just to add a little oil (13 quarts or so) to the fire:
Q: How can you annoy a 911 owner?
A: Just pass him on the track!

But what do I know, I'm just a JV boy. :D
-Zoltan.
Shh: Don't tell anyone I'm a moderator here....

juanbenae 10-18-2002 11:41 AM

z-boy, z-boy, z-boy, that vote served its purpose if you still remember it. i on the other hand had forgotten all about it, how did the results end up?

Man, you're walking on thin ice. I don't appreciate the name calling.

And, for the record, there was no visitation necessary to the 91 WHATEVER boards to see how you 911 owners behave. Obviously, this thread had to be moved from that board to here, since it contained no technical info on the 911. IIRC, this is the OT forums, not the 911 OT forums.

I cannot remember if I ever saw someone on the 924/944/968 boards bashing another 924/944/968 owner like I've seen and heard of on the 911 board: must be a 911 thing. Yeah, sometimes we poke fun of each other, and 911 owners, (and other p-car owners) but it surprised me to see how far you guys have gone at times. (Like stuff you dish out to Nostatic & Thrown_hammer and 944 owners, for example) Seems like the 911 forums are starting to look like the Supra forums.

I guess you don't need maturity to be on the varisty team.
-Zoltan.

Lothar 10-18-2002 07:58 PM

Z-man has a point

We are all 911 enthusiasts. Can we agree on that? Why must we pit MFI against CIS against EFI against Varioram against 996...? In contrast, GM has made a few good cars vs. a lot that I would not be caught dead in. Each P-car has it's strengths and weaknesses. However, there's a big difference between weakness and flat-out-sucks!

A little respect please?

PORSHIN 10-20-2002 09:01 PM

Hey Z-man, Thrown hammer, and anyone else that has been flamed here, there are a lot of great people one this board. There are also those who have become so obsessed with their own particular car, they feel as if nothing else could possibly compare! For example, if they have a coupe, Targas are inferior. If they are only capable of getting 230 hp out of their engine, it is impossible to get any more. If they have a 911, nothing else is worthy of being called a Porsche. One thing to remember though, all of us are not like that. I prefer my Carrera, but I have driven 944's and I know they are worthy of the badge. Your car IS YOUR CAR! It would be a very boring interest if every one were identical. They all have their pros and cons and each one is unique thanks to our own personal preferences in modifying them whether it is to produce tremendous horsepower or to create a different look. Also, the type Porsche we drive may be partially determined by the type driving we like to do. Keep in mind that some of the people who would lead you to believe they are "experts" here are not and they will sometimes make a statement as fact that is not. On the other hand there are people here who will help you any way they can. You just have to sort them out. But please, don't sell the rest of us short.
Rob

Andyrew 10-23-2002 07:52 PM

I wonder...

I wonder what would happen if i brought the 914's on this rant, hmmm..... na, although i will side with the fact that a 944 handles better than a 9 eleben. and say, that with the same cash, the 944 turbo is faster than the 911 turbo, in all performance area's,

O great now im gona get it, lol

Ducking

....

:D

OK forget about that, for fear of being overcome with 911 expencive rants, Just forget all i just said, ;), but in ever case you doubt the 914 or 944, ill gladly give you a ride in eather.
Thanks for the laughs.
