Black-eyed Peas, Cornbread and Ham ??

Anyone else having the traditional Southern New Years day "good luck" meal ??

Personally, me thinks it is nap-time.

and Happy New Year to all Pelicans where ever you are..... SmileWavy

Happy New Year!
Saurkraut and spare ribs are the tradition here. No naps today. Watching the football games is wearing the edge of my sofa seat out. Great day for college football.

I wish. I'd love to have had black eyed peas, cornbread and ham. Maybe that for lunch and then sauerkraut, sausage and mashed potatos for dinner. Not today though.

Just a little Texas caviar as a snack.

Black eye peas and rice with onions and tasso, cabbage, and instead of ham we had pork chops stuffed with crawfish dressing. For dessert pecan pie and coffee. Jut woke up from 2 hour nap, left overs are at 6.

You need some collards to go with that, and don't forget the sweet iced tea.

Yes sir... We had ham, collards, rice, black eyed peas and corn bread. We overcooked the darn ham but it was still good.
I love being southern; my wife was born in Minnesota and reared in Colorado but has adapted quiet well to southern cooking. She had never had a collard ( or any other cooked green), boiled peanuts, or many other "southern" delicacies before meeting me but I swear, she likes those things better than most that have lived here their entire lives.
Did I say I love being southern?

Smoked sausage, black eyed peas, corn and rice here.

Damn you guys, I just had Texas Roadhouse sirloin steak with Cajun shrimp on a skewer, big sweet potato with butter and brown sugar, a bowl of texas steak chili, and a big margarita with salt on the lip. Don't forget those soft rolls with the honey butter.

Usually do not post over here, but thought I would entertain you fine folks today. I used the Christmas ham to make a pot of beans in the crock pot. Nothing fancy, pintos, onion, ham and seasoning. No one else in the house would have any part of it, that is another subject. First night, had a sample, not bad. Usually gets really good after being fridged and then reheated the next day. Night two, tasted amazing, but know what these beans can do to me the next morning.

Surprise, everything was good the next day. Last night, finished the batch off, 2 1/2 bowls with a bit of hot sauce. Were amazing! Woke up at 5 am this morning and it was on! I was a walking fart grenade till almost noon. Almost reminds me of Pig Pen on Charlie Brown. Think I had that visible cloud following me around. lol

Honey butter? Oh I have GOT to try that.

Mmmm, boiled peanuts. I don't think I've had boiled peanuts in over 20 years. I've gotta find or maybe check the net and make some. How hard can it be?

Smoked Sausage, sounds yummy. For about 4 years, I worked at a smallish place that was full of Texans and a whole bunch of guys from Louisiana. Those guys were always bringing in home made sausage, venison sausage, boudin (oh my, that stuff is tasty), chili, gumbo, etc.... Honestly, that's what I miss most about that place. Lots of REALLY good food.

THat sounds tasty! Beans are very high in fiber. Eat fiber more regularly and the side effects will eventually stop or go to a minimum.

Oh yeah, good stuff.

Last year the missus made black-eyed peas from fresh peas. Man, that stuff was tasty. I need to get her to make some again.

I need to make another batch of chili. I think I could very easily eat chili year 'round.
