It looked like a satellite phone to me or at least a hardened cell phone and the fire fight started while he was on their phone.

Yes, it looked to be a satellite phone based on the previews. I doubt Verizon has very good coverage in the sandbox.

Many urban combat locations have cell service these days. Its strange but true. We had a guy rack up a $9000 phone bill in just a few months calling his stupid GF back in the states. Also, the sat phones are very common. The movie scene is not totally unrealistic IMO.

Thanks. Maybe I will see it after all. Good word of mouth. Although the movie is becoming politicized, unfortunately.

I saw the movie tonight, I really liked it, my wife said there were flaws in developing character, she, of course, wanted to see more of the story of him and the family, how it developed. I didn't. The only flaw I saw was the battle scene at the end, but I won't go into it because some haven't seen it yet.

I saw it. It was pretty good. There were a few mistakes - like a guy wearing a SIG P-226 in a holster with the hammer cocked. And I think some of his shots would have caused a lot more trauma than was shown in the movie. Hitting a child with a .300 Win Mag or .338 Lapua would make more than what usually passes for a gunshot wound in the movies. The final scene where he playfully points the revolver at his wife is pretty hard to believe.

Well, if you are going to be picky how about the plastic baby he was holding.
But still, my main flaw was with the final battle scene, I understand the military isn't always on top of things but I would have hoped by now they were better. My wife said it was just for the movie. Probably not the way it really happened.

Wife & I just saw it tonight. We thought it was pretty good. Not a word was spoken by the audience after credits rolled. All walked out in silence. Eastwood did another great job IMHO.

Critic on the local TV news gave it 2 stars out of 4.......Said it was kind a an overly long biography?

Everyone I know that has seen it liked it more than that?

Apparently not politically slanted enough for that critic.

Why should the guy be mentioned in the speech?

Relatively famous national hero? If Kim Kardashian had died he would probably mention it.

I seen it last week. I thought it was excellent. As far as realism and technicality, I'm sure every movie ever made has things in them that can be picked apart.

I think one of the biggest issues with the film, is peoples expectations of it. It wasn't made to be a "war movie". Its meant to show Kyle's personal struggles,. Not so much recreations of his battle scenes and the actual war.

Haven't seen it yet, but I did catch an interview on the radio yesterday with a Texan military sniper who said it was very realistic, with regard to the depiction of the job. Looking forward to seeing it.

I doubt 1 of 100 Americans recognize the name Chris Kyle.

And I doubt any president would mention Kim what's her face in a State of The Union address or any other formal speech.

+1

I found the ending to be very abrupt, but then again.... it was.

I saw the movie with my wife on opening day. It was not exactly what I expected, but also better. On my personal movie scale, I give it five thumbs up = "Would see again."
