Guardians of the Galaxy...egh...

Saw the movie the other night. It was marginal. The idea was sound enough for a comic book movie but the dialogue and characters were weak and predictable. The SE was good but not mind blowing. Actually, the most fascinating thing in the movie was the mining of the aliens skull for bone and neuro-matter. That had 'Dune' written all over it.

This had such potential to be really good. I pulled out my comic book collection I had as a kid and found #11 Star Lord circa 1977. I wish these movies would stay a little closer to the original ideas. Oh, who cares anyway. Its just a stupid movie and comic book.

Sequels are normally worse then the original. If there is one, I don't expect the sequel to be much better.

Relative to the other Marvel movies, I am glad I didn't pay to watch this one. Standing on its own it was an average movie.

stomachmonkey 01-26-2015 08:42 AM

We liked it a lot.

It was intended to be a bit more comedic and tongue in cheek than the rest of the Marvel stuff to date.

I liked Drax the Destroyer's character.

Rocket Raccoon: [about Drax] Metaphors go over his head.

Drax the Destroyer: NOTHING goes over my head!... My reflexes are too fast, I would catch it.

The comedic parts weren't enough to carry the movie. It was a good movie, but certainly not a great movie.

Making aliens sound like hip Americans just doesn't cut it for me.

The back story on rocket raccoon would have been good to know - genetic experiment used to act as a guard in an insane asylum as well as Groots back story - all good things if told. As for Star Lord, still wondering what AA cells he uses for his Walkman to last 20 years!

But have you seen the prices on early Sony Walkmans now?

Rechargeable.

Dilithium.

I'm looking forward to the (true to the comic) Howard the Duck movie.

I caught this on the plane coming home from India, and was pleasantly surprised. It wasn't mind blowing, but the characters had enough chemistry to hold it together. I'd give it a solid B.

it was a long dull summer full of movies that took themselves too seriously. guardians made me laugh.

masraum 01-26-2015 03:18 PM

It was a decent, fun movie. It wasn't as good as many of the others, but it was entertaining.

Noah930 01-26-2015 07:17 PM

Saw it for the first time this weekend, too. I was entertained. Better than I expected, actually (though I wasn't expecting much).

I got $0.000001 in the paycheck for you paying to see it, so I'm happy. I worked on it so I'm happy with the box office sales.

Have you watched Marvel's Agent Carter on ABC? You can watch it on line. Agent Peggy Carter is sweet looking and bad ass to boot.

bri450sl 01-26-2015 07:46 PM

I liked it.

red-beard 01-26-2015 07:52 PM

Hugh: Will there be a Captain America 3?

Hugh R 01-26-2015 08:04 PM

Yes.

And lots of other Marvel super hero films. For what we (Disney) spent to buy Marvel, there will be lots and lots of them. Ant Man is next I believe. Also the next Star Wars. We own Lucas Films as well. We own everything.

Nostril Cheese 01-26-2015 08:08 PM

Is there going to be a Howard the Duck movie?

Saw a screener. :p

I thought it was a fun movie. Much less serious than the other Marvel movies to date (like Captain America 2, which I really liked for different reasons).

Also, my understanding is that no, there will not be (another) Howard the Duck movie. It was just a dog whistle for hardcore marvel fans.
