Dodge Ram truck thread
So far I've owned 1 datsun truck, 2 nissan trucks, 2 toyota trucks, 1 chebby truck, and 1 furd F-150. If a pick-up can be called a truck that is.
But I never ever thought of owning a dodge truck until recently. Always thought they were cheap fall-apart tow-truck bait fer some reason. But my dad bought a new one several years ago and loves it. Says he gets great gas mileage, go figure. The new ram trucks sure look nice and the interior is awesome, I just wonder how long they last. Any BTDT?

Not a Ram but a Durango. 182k miles. New radiator at 174k and a new pinion bearing a couple weeks ago. Alternator and starter were replaced about 6 months ago. If I drive it I get about 17 mixed (more highway than city) with the 318. The new motors are so much better.
We have the tow package so the heavy duty cooling and transmission cooler so we haven't had any issues with that and have used it for towing. On the way from CA to WI it got 13.5 with a car on the back. Dad has always had the big Dodge Maxivans for work. Take care of them and they last forever. You take your chances with a minivan though. They had two transmission issues. One at 167k miles and another van at 85k miles. They have had a minivan since they came out. The pentastar 6 is a great motor but probably not the best in the truck even with the 8 speed. Not much worse mileage with the hemi and 8 speed. The local dealer here gives you a lifetime warranty on the drivetrain no extra cost. I have a friend that has a 1500 with a hemi and loves it. About 60k miles on it now with no issues.

with a 2014 Ram 3500 Crewcab dually diesel.![]() My first Dodge. I always thought Dodge (now Ram) never finished a truck. ![]() ![]() 865 torque and can 5th wheel 30k lbs. Empty it does ride a little rough. Light work just a 24 foot car trailer total around 9k lbs. ![]() Bring on the hills.

Maybe I am to presume you do to say as a " New truck?"
I have the 2nd generation, they come with a list of birth defects that HAVE to be remedied. Its not hit and miss. They come in the box brand new with about 10 large expensive problems. I know nothing of the New ones.

I had a thread just a week or two ago about renting a new Ram 1500 4x4 w/ Hemi. I can't seem to link anything with this little iPad but should be easy to find under "Ram".
I was expecting it to have balls, (it did), what I wasn't expecting was how well made and engineered it was. I've rented plenty of new PU trucks and it seemed better than the others but then I have not tried the very latest GM or Ford which are all complete redesigns in the last 2 years. Anyways, it had the best, smoothest transmission I've ever seen. 8-speed and drops cylinders whenever you're not accelerating, could get good mpg w/ light foot.

![]() Every issue that these trucks are known for, has happened to mine! On the other hand I have friends with the identical truck, that have never had a single issue with them. I'm a diehard Ford person. I've owned about 8 Ford trucks over the years. f 150s, 250s, 350s, Broncos, etc.. But even with all its issues, I still love my Dodge.

Yep, thinking of the 2015 model year.
they went away from leaf springs and went to coils all around, that sounds ... interesting. |

Sitting in the dentist office a couple weeks ago, I was reading R&T or MT, and they had a review of Ford vs. Chevy vs. Dodge. Ram came out on top, mostly for functionality and interior design.

That's something that always cracks me up. People tell me "your truck rides rough" I'm like, "No shyte, its a truck..." Not an open bed Lincoln Continental.. I didn't buy any of my trucks for ride quality.

Toyota is supposed to bring one in the country with the Cummings in it.. ( one ton)
I am not i love with ANY of them. They are all ok under warranty , after that all can be $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ I keep mine cause i have it "sorted" out Rebuilt engine, different transmission and clutch , etc etc It is as if these are produced and hatched B4 the embroil is ready . Not sure about the others but the dodge computer systems can quit anytime. Maybe in the last few years they have addressed the problems.

Agree, New 1 ton diesel trucks are like a commercial truck with a pick up body.
From what little I've seen the Ram trucks are priced lower than the other makes. |
