OCOEE, Fla. — Orange County deputies are trying to figure out why hundreds of teenagers suddenly rushed into the movie theater at West Oaks Mall in Ocoee Saturday night.

Deputies said as many as 900 kids, described as being in middle or high school, attempted to rush the theater at once.

“My anxiety hit the roof. I was like, ‘How do we get out?’” said moviegoer Jessica Weckerly.

Nearly 300 teenagers were able to get in before the security gates were closed. Police said a group of about 100 rushed into the theater and continued causing a disturbance.

Jessica Weckerly and her husband, Brian Weckerly, were on their first date in months for the Valentine’s Day showing of “50 Shades of Grey” when they heard hundreds of people stampeding into the building.

+1. Seems wholly inappropriate to write this off as just "bored kids being kids." Some other reports describe multiple gunshots, as well as looting at a gas station that happened to be nearby.

Is this an extension of the rioting that Ferguson started? General racial unrest? Is anything similar going on elsewhere in the country? Too many questions, nowhere near enough answers.

They're lucky that one or two theater goers weren't carrying and thought the worse was happening and started popping the kids off. Stupid use of school media. Cops need to find out who initiated it and throw their asses in jail.

Social media at work. It's so easy now to get large numbers of people organized for some event, be it for good, or not-so-good.

as long as the public is willing to be victimized, and are encouraged to be so willing by law enforcement, this kind of incident will continue to escalate. i'd have expected to have my arse handed to me, had i tried this nonsense.

Nothing from the national news "sources" One would think a group of over 800 storming a public facility would be national newsworthy...but something in the facts of this incident makes this story not worthy of the attention.... hmmmm

The tactic now is called crash and grab. Culprits all sport hoodies, making it difficult to i.d. in a surveillance cam. A vehicle is stolen, and they crash thru a storefront. They grab as much as they can in less then 30 seconds and scram like rats.

Happening more frequently in Chicago.

Arrested for shoplifting?

You can either get on the straight-and-narrow and clean up your act — or you can decide to take revenge on the store you robbed.

Four teenage girls and one teenage boy took part in a rampage Wednesday through the Marysville, California, Save Mart, KTXL-TV reported.

But they didn’t steal a thing, police said.
They just wrecked stuff.
At one point, police said, the teenagers went to the liquor aisle and started chugging alcohol.
Police said the teens also shouted out gang slogans as they chucked food items around and “terrorized the store.”
The path of destruction they carved was not victimless.
Beside thousands of dollars of damage to store property, the teenagers also spilled cooking oil, leaving a slick spot where a 64-year-old Air Force veteran slipped and possibly fractured his elbow, KTXL reported.

When a store manager tried to stop the teens, one of them punched him in the face, and when police arrived to arrest them, two officers suffered minor injuries as the teenagers resisted arrest, KTXL reported.

Why did the teens do it?
Police said three of the teenagers involved in Wednesday’s rampage had been arrested two days before for shoplifting from that very same store. It seems, police said, the teens were out for revenge.
In the wake of the rampage, the four female teenagers are facing potential life in prison.

Shateemah Harrison, Alexandria Petrondla Evans and Elias Esquivel, all 15, along with 14-year-old Sarah Murphy were charged as adults with felony counts of second-degree robbery, dissuading a witness, criminal threats, assault with a deadly weapon, second-degree burglary and vandalism on Friday, the Marysville Appeal-Democrat reported.

Details on the charges facing the fifth teen, 13 years old, were not released.

The felony charges came with an enhancement: the allegation that the teens destroyed the store on behalf of the Crips gang.

Esquivel also faces a felony resisting arrest charge, and the assault with a deadly weapon charge involved the use of frozen chicken, the criminal complaint said.

All tallied up, the teens could be sentenced to 45 years to life in prison, thanks to the string of felonies and the enhancement.

All four pleaded not guilty Friday, the Appeal-Democrat reported.
