Question for Subaru Owners

I was driving to work on Friday morning. The car ahead of me had no tail lights. Saturday morning I was on my way to the Race Track. Dark and foggy along Highway 1 suddenly the back end of a Subaru with no tail lights is right in front of me. A few miles further down the road, yet another Subaru with no tail light.

My question: Do Subarus have a problem with their tail lights or do some Subaru owner have a problem reading the owner's manual and don't turn the light on all the way?

I was run off the road by a Subaru with no taillights. They were texting and crossed into my lane. Made it easy for the police to track them down.

Even with parking lights the rears would be lit up. this one had not brake or taillights.

Was recently pulled over in my Outback because I failed to switch on my lights while driving well after dark. My issue is/was that the DRLs are continuously on (I noticed them shining on the building I parked next to) and the gauges, HVAC and radio are lit continuously as well. So, if it's only dim out and there are street lights, it is easy to forget to switch on the head (and tail) lights.

I have a subaru wrx and have had 2 other ones I never noticed anything wrong with any lights mine always worked just fine
the idiots that made the inside lights dash come on without the headlights is just crazy
this is becoming a huge problem at night dark cars with no rear lights on are just all over
you high beam them and they still don't get it

I think it's crazy to allow a headlight setting where the headlights are on but not the tail lights. Dark car + dark foggy road = big F**k'n crash.

I don't like DRLs so I just turn on my parking lights. If I happen to be out and it becomes dark I turn the switch to the headlights.

Yes but that is the deal with every car (AFAIK) running DRLs. The confusion for the driver (or at least for me) was that the instruments/dash is illuminated continuously. Pile that on top of street lights, lots of white snow and seeing my headlights shining on the building when I started the car resulted in my error. I guess that makes me an idiot.

my 2006 wrx is on its original tail lights I believe

For some reason it sorta ate driver front headlights for a while, It is on its 3-4th headlight bupb in 110k miles

In my wife's 2013 Impreza the dash lights don't come on without the headlights and taillights being on.

04 wrx.i I think my tailights work. Wait here while I go check

It's a problem for all cars with DRLs, not just Subaru's. My old '99 Tahoe has DRLs but fortunately the dash lights do not come on w/o regular lights on position of switch. At least DRLs are keeping idiots in my neighborhood from driving around on pitch black streets with no lights on at all. I still see a lot of that on cars w/o DRLs.

Thank goodness we have mandated daytime running lights and mandatory back up cameras on new cars. Everyone will be so much safer
