Too cheap. Something is wrong.

onewhippedpuppy 10-15-2015 07:19 AM

It has lots of miles. I've seen 60k-ish 997 C4S in the upper $30k range, with more than double the miles that price seems decent.

Gus Berges 10-15-2015 08:57 AM

Since I recently sold my 2002 996 C4S for $20K with 33.5K miles, this 2006 997 C4S with 11.2K miles for $37K seems how? I'm sure the car will sell for less than $35K.

You're right. I missed that the listed miles were on the engine only. My bad.

Not exactly cheap, but a great color on this turbo! Porsche 2010 911 Turbo, PDK, Ceramics, Loaded, $165 sticker!!

Reviving, inspired by the other thread. Convertible S with PDK at $53K: 2009 Porsche 911 Convertible Carrera S only 45,006 miles

My wife just sent me this link.

That's a 991... But more importantly, I think your wife is trying to tell you something. :)

It looks like this one needs an engine.

Also says salvage title.

jorian 01-23-2016 06:13 AM

Seller says the cylinders need to be "realigned."
Is there a special tool for that?

I thought the motors in these cars didn't go bad....
That car is worth $10k, at best.

Educate me, please. The motor is still running so it could be exchanged with Jake. So $20k'ish plus your $10k puts someone into a nice car for $30 with some equity, no? Even less invested if you just went with a used motor. Still right side up??? Or is there something about the car itself I am missing?

In other words, where do you see the market for early 997.1's?

The car has a salvage title (big -). Running examples are already in the low 30's.
Why wouldn't you just find one of those rather than sink big $$$ into this one...?

Too funny. :)

Halm 01-23-2016 12:35 PM

Thanks flskala, I missed the salvage title piece. That would be a deal killer.

My thought had been the car for $10K plus a new Jake motor would be a highly desirable combination that would not put someone upside-down in an already depreciating car.

Also, what do you mean by "running example"? A car that has been ridden hard and put to bed wet or any 997.1 with similar mileage?

Deschodt 01-25-2016 08:59 AM

Lots of 997.1 out there , getting cheap, for all the obvious reasons. I'm disappointed LN and others haven't come up with a magic bullet for those cars yet (unless you call the engine exchange program the magic bullet ;-)

I've been looking for a 997.2 on and off since I sold my 912, and I see precious few v2 for sale at decent prices (<50). Actually zero over the past 3 months within 200 miles of me. Esp with the manual tranny. Low production #s ? future classics ? Looks like a ton of convertibles and PDKs out there but not much else...

I'm starting to wonder if 991s aren't worth a look. And that new Ford Focus RS that just came out, sounds like a rally car for 36K !

What do you mean by "magic bullet"? Jake has said that the larger bearing cars are fine.
