2007 Porsche 911 CARRERA - $34900

I’m looking at selling my very nice 2009 Carrera with 63,400 miles on it. Its guards red with manual transmission, nav, heated sport seats, sport exhaust. I love it but may be moving to somewhere that gets winter snow next year.

I have my eye on a beautiful manual 6 speed 2010 Carrera 4S with 26,xxx miles on it. It is a one owner car sold to dealer. They are asking 63k for it (its pristine) but when I see people buying these for 10k less makes me hesitate to pull the trigger on it.

Dealer wants to give trade in for a lot less than what I think it’s worth, I guess that’s always the story!

Would you guys pay top dollar for a really nice example? I’m tempted to sell mine to an individual and keep looking.

onewhippedpuppy 07-24-2018 12:39 PM

I would only ever overpay for extremely nice condition or really good options. Sport seats, sport exhaust, Aerokit, Sport Chrono, various wheel packages, extended leather, carbon fiber, those are things that you'll be hard pressed to duplicate. If it's just a normal 4S, I would keep looking. They aren't rare cars.

Also remember that most of the great deals aren't on pristine cars. I've found some smoking deals over the years, but most of them required me to invest a little time/money in making the car meet my standards. The less time I have, the more value I put into buying a car that's already nice.

Oh yeah, and sell that car outright. If it's that nice you'll find an enthusiast buyer, because it sounds well optioned. Don't let a dealer screw you over.

Post some pics and let the vultures here tell you what it's worth...

This.

>They aren't rare cars.

Depends... Black PDK and convertible is common as hell... But those are recession era cars with low production #s and a vast majority of PDKs..

Not black, stick and coupé are kind of a rare combo actually... And overpriced IMO. That's why I ended up in a 991 but that's another story.

PS: I'm not sure I'd sell your car (if you like it) and spend extra $$ for a C4 just because of snow. Good snow tires on a RWD 911 and you can do quite a lot in the white stuff.

Just from an observational standpoint, there really aren't many affordable 997s out there. Hell, there aren't many affordable 996s out there anymore either.

I agree. I was hoping '09 S would go down below 40 around here, but they seem to have either stayed or increased in price. SF Bay Area premium, whatever that means.

NutmegCarrera 11-15-2018 12:43 AM

FWIW I bought a 2003 C4S last year with 8700 miles at top of market price. It’s like a new car.
Was looking at an 09 S previously that was a fair amount more.
Have really enjoyed the one I bought, and would likely do it again given the chance.
I also think the market has bottomed, and prices will be on the rise for 996 and 997 in general.

Nice catch. Something about ads on Indy's Craigslist - there was a Boxster supposedly for sale in KY that was only advertised in Indianapolis with a too-good-to-be-true price, which is why I thought this one was fishy.

Paul K 09-29-2019 01:29 PM

No affiliation, but I’ll be in Salem later this week if anyone needs eyes on it?

Porsche 911 (997) *CLEAN* - $25700 (Salem, OR)

wildthing 09-29-2019 04:42 PM

For some reason 997.2s have either leveled off or have even increased in value... It's that or Craigslist is slim pickings these days.

porsche4life 07-02-2020 01:08 AM

Bumping this thread.... I’m seeing some cars pop up under 30k that look appealing. What are you guys seeing around the country?

porsche4life 07-02-2020 05:46 PM

None? You guys are disappointing me. 🤣

MBAtarga 07-02-2020 05:57 PM

I've been "window" shopping on Rennlist lately- I haven't seen any price drops. Perhaps the quality of cars there is not typical to the average 997. I'm certain they are higher quality that craigslist.

wildthing 07-02-2020 06:18 PM

Well here's a non-S: https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/cto/d/san-francisco-2009-porsche-911-carrera/7151938722.html at $30K.

There was an S that I had my eye on before Covid. Was texting the owner and was about to go see it, then Covid hit and he stopped posting his ad. He posted it a few weeks ago but it expired I guess, or he sold it. 997.2 S, tracked, 90K miles, upgraded wheels, Vorsteiner(?) and upgraded exhaust Pfister(?), $42.5K.

porsche4life 07-03-2020 01:33 AM

That ones gone!

I think I’ll have to swallow it and buy a silver one if I want to get one under 30. Certainly not many cars out there in other colors!

And I agree, the quality of cars is better on the forums. But I’m willing to buy a bit of a project for the right price. Hell, fixing a few things is half the fun.

Eric Coffey 07-03-2020 09:31 AM

Here's a black high-miler in FL @ $24k:

Honestly I need to go drive a Tip. I don’t hate the idea, especially since this will be my DD.

There’s a nice 6spd cab in AZ at a good price right now on FB. It’s what got me thinking about a 997 and not a 996. Id have already pulled the trigger on it if we hadn’t just started refinancing the house! Gotta wait until that’s done first.

Ziggythecat 07-08-2020 08:44 AM

Be patient.
Wait for a 997 6 speed...especially if you plan to drive it a lot.

Better to be going 40mph in 2nd gear in a stick, than going 120 mph in an automatic

wildthing 07-09-2020 09:23 PM

And it's back: https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/cto/d/campbell-2009-porsche-911-carrera-9972/7154772082.html now down to 41K. I think it should be below 40.

I would love to get a manual, but I would like my wife to be able to drive it so I'm looking for a PDK.

speeder 07-10-2020 09:53 PM

Just for a data point, I passed on a 100k mile 2010 997.2 S 6-speed manual in the exact same geographical location, (Saratoga), one year ago for $39k. It was white w black interior, sport chrono and most other options and not tracked. It needed brakes and tires yesterday.

I paid for a PPI from GMG, (Syncroid on Pelican), and drove all the way up w a friend to grab it and then backed-out after seeing and driving it. It was ok but had a big scratch on the hood that the guy failed to mention and he also omitted telling me about the bald tires and paper thin brake pads before I drove 400 miles. The whole thing put a bad taste in my mouth and I just didn't feel like handing over nearly 40 large to this mook.

I drove a block away, pulled over and called the guy to tell him I was passing on it. Felt great. Asked my friend if he wanted the best steak in Monterey and hit the road. Got back to LA around midnight.

I passed on a 2009 997.2 non-S 6-speed w normal miles, (don't remember exact miles), silver/black sport chrono that had been resprayed due to a storm dropping branches on it-top quality job and clean title for $31k about 4 or 5 years ago. That one sold fast.

speeder 07-10-2020 09:58 PM

I should clarify that the PPI caught the bald tires and brakes, (but not the deep scratch down to bare metal), it all sort of happened at once if memory serves, i.e. driving up to grab it and getting the PPI done while driving, etc. The fact that the seller withheld such pertinent info and then would not adjust price made me walk, even though it was decent price. The car just did not blow me away.

jorian 11-15-2021 01:43 PM

Current market has made this thread a bit of an oxymoron. I bought my 997 in 2011 with 30K miles on it. Today with 70K miles on the clock, I can get 5K more than I paid for it in 2011. Crazy times.

wildthing 11-15-2021 04:57 PM

I guess that's why the thread died (or at least was in a coma)... Someone was selling a 53K mi black 997.2S for 50K in Thousand Oaks about a month ago, but my wife dissuaded me from flying, thinking I could find one locally. Dammit!

There was a 97K mi white one on the PCA Classifieds for $49K, and of course, someone beat me to it as I was about a 2 hour drive away.

mistertate 11-15-2021 05:29 PM

I’d think with bore scoring they would be cheaper than 996. I guess it’s a worse problem in terms of prevention but hasn’t got the fear mongering publicity as IMS bearing?

Dan J 11-15-2021 06:40 PM

Lately every 997/1 I look at over 50k has bore scoring

wildthing 11-22-2021 07:42 PM

Ok talk me out of a 997.2S w/ 47K miles for $60K.... besides the "we're in a bubble" argument.

I'd have seriously considered this and checked it out had I not gotten a 991.
