School Options for Road-warriors
 

I was thinking about going back to school but I'm in California for 4 days every other week for work. So if I enrolled in a regular university I would only be able to attend classes every other week. Anyone else ever deal with this situation? Would a university make concession for special cases like this or am I just out of luck?

You would have to ask them, each has different policy, I would suspect. I suppose it might be one rule for private schools, one for the state schools.

I think usually there class schedule is a set 1 or 2 days a week per class, and not likely you could find classes willing to compensate. You could consider online classes or possibly weekend classes.

It depends on what you're going back for. If you're getting an MBA there are many Executive MBA programs that would fit you well. Typically classes meet on campus every other weekend with the rest of the work being done on line. It's pretty intense, but a lot of working people do it. 18 months to two years and you're done - about the same time as a full time day student.

You should check into other executive programs. Other degrees will have them too.

If you're going back for an undergraduate degree I would suggest Arizona State University. You can earn an entire degree on line and it will be the same degree as the traditional day students receive. I would not go to one of the for profit on line schools. I don't think anyone is really fooled into thinking a degree or classes from one of those schools makes a difference in qualifying you for a job or advancement. Why would you go to one of them when schools like ASU give you well recognized accredited degree opportunities?

Many accredited public universities now offer online degree programs, for both undergraduate and graduate degrees. I am slowly getting my MBA online through Fort Hays State University, a conventional state university that has a fully accredited MBA program in their brick and mortar school. The online program is identical to on-campus, even the diploma looks the same.
