Everybody in Texas survive the rain?
 

We got about 8" in the course of a few hours. Found a couple of roof leaks, but our house sits on top of a hill north of San Antonio.

Here is a view of the Cibolo creek in Boerne where it cuts through the in law's ranch. This is taken from the top of a 100 foot bluff overlooking the creek looking north. It was taken last weekend after several days of rain restored the cheek to its normal level:

Just for reference, this picture was taken a few weeks ago in our normal drinkin' spot (just to the right of the rapids in the first picture). Notice the flat rock where we place the cooler. That's now under 20 feet of water!

The Blanco river residents aren't ok. It's a big mess, and it's going to cause more problems down stream.

We got about 5 inches of rain at the house. The wind was the worst though, taking a 3 inch branch from the huge oak down about 40ft onto the Camry and Porsche. The Camry will need a new hood.

Yeah it's pretty bizarre.

A month ago most of the lakefront floating businesses were in danger of not being able to open for the season because the lakes were so low.

They can't open this weekend because the lakes are too full.

Some of the lakes were down 20 feet and are now overflowing. These are lakes that are miles long and miles wide.

It's a lot of water.

Too bad we can't sell it to California.

I was in Dallas last week and it was all over the news. I didn't understand what the big deal was....rain. so what. But now I get it from the photos and reference points. Woke up Thursday morning to a big T storm hitting the buildings downtown. It was pretty bad ass.

VaSteve, what were you in Dallas for?

As for the water, our soil here is such dense clay that water doesn't seep in. Land here is pretty flat. The water has no place to go.

The grass is really green though...

Work event. I was able to go play a bit on my own time. :)
Stayed next to the Trinity Stand Trail and went jogging a couple of times. Man that thing filled up with the rain!!

Welcome to the world of feast or famine....

They have opened the spill gates on most of the lakes.

To put it in perspective, the rate of release is enough to fill an olympic size pool every 15 seconds.

And still some of the lakes are filling faster than they can keep up with.

Thanks for the pics, mreid. I'll be out that way with friends floating the frio in two weeks. I hope the levels decrease a little so the water clarity isn't that bad from the runoff. Also,I'll need to keep a serious eye out for flash flooding.

Lake Travis came up 4.5 feet in one day. Still about 40 foot below normal.

The Pedernales river was out of its banks, last night. It had very little water in it prior. That's good news for Lake Travis. The swath of rain (from San Antonio to Dallas) that came, hit fast, and lots of people are without homes now due to flooding.

I asked my parents about the Trinity, but they said it hadn't left it's banks near their home. It has down stream, however.

Glad to hear you guys are ok. We are planning to be in San Antonio for family vacation in a little more than a week, based on the flooding and long term forecast (more rain) we are scrambling to come up with plan B. Sea World and Schlitterbahn's won't be much fun on a cool day in the rain. Obviously a pathetic concern compared to people that have lost their homes.

Interesting side note, this will be our second vacation rescheduled by natural disaster. Several years ago we were booked at a resort near Colorado Springs, and massive wildfires either wiped out or closed nearly every destination in the area.

Was curious about Lake Travis.

Oasis, the old one before the fire, was one of my favorite places to chill.

Was down ther last summer and the lake looked so pathetic.

I grew up near Wimberley out in the county. My parent's place is OK because for whatever reason it didn't rain as much in the creek upstream from them and dad cleaned out the drainage pipes that keep water from ponding in front of the house.

Friends weren't as lucky. One of them live 1.5 miles from the Blanco and their place had 4 feet of water. It took out their truck, everything in the house, the a/c and the hot tub. Crazy stuff, their house didn't flood during the mess in 1998 but that one hit the Guadalupe watershed more than the Blanco.

On Lake Texoma, I live 1/2 mile to the west of this Marina....

The Trinity is well above flood stage just North of Houston and still rising last I heard.

Its gonna continue to rest of the week - off and on. Its actually not the worst its been. In 2006 I think we had more rain...I think we did.

Our yearly average is 21 inches. We've had 22 already. Playa lakes that had been empty for 10 years are full.

Wow that sure is a lot of water. Does this mean the drought is broken.

Will this help to fill reservoirs and stick around as ground water?
