Old News Ferrari sends Cease and Desist letter about custom /paint job

old news but STILL crazy story, seems if you own a Ferrarri you can't paint/wrap it anyway you want. What an uptight bunch of ------ Or maybe this is from the Onion or some other satire:


"Apparently Ferrari was none to pleased with the custom badges and associated floor mats on Deadmau5's 458 Italia Purrari. So much so that Ferrari North America sent the self-admitted button-pusher a cease and desist to have the custom emblems removed.

Deadmau5 (aka Joel Zimmerman) wrapped his 458 in a vinyl tribute to Nyan cat, running it in a few rallies and getting coffee with assorted celebrities and disgraced politicians before it went up for sale.


The wrap has since been removed and returned to its original vanilla flavor, and the customized "Purrari" badges – which are dead ringers for the standard Ferrari text – apparently went with them. Zimmerman doesn't say if the wrap and badge removal was because of the C&D or if it's just the next step in selling his 458.


We're reaching out to Zimmerman and Ferrari for comment, and will update the post if/when we hear back."

It would be interesting to see if Ferrari has any legal standing to tell an owner what he can do with his personal property. I can't imagine they can, but with the goofy judges who knows.

That is likely their angle, as Ferrari "selects" the owners for their limited edition cars. After Chris Harris made negative comments about a Ferrari, they blacklisted him from their press events for years. Lots of corporate arrogance there, eff them.

I remember when the owner of a very well known Porsche dealership would not ALLOW Gray Market cars on their property and the shop was told NOT take in any Gray Market cars to work on.

The owner could wrap the car with logo's for Viagra and Ferrari couldn't do anything.

What Ferrari objected to, was modifying their brand logo's. Similar to a cease and desist to an imitation of Ferrari's logo with a Moose, and Volvo written in the Ferrari font look.

The issue, is the guy was messing with Ferrari's trademarks.

It would be like Home Depot asking a company that imitated their logo intentionally, to change come up with their own.

Its not the paint job, its the black prancing cat on a yellow square with "Purrari".

Its infringement on Ferrari's logo. Similar to Ford sending a cease and desist to Ferrari when they were going to name one of the cars the F-150.(True story).

Or Porsche having to rename the 901 to sell it in France, as number 0 number for a car name was reserved to a French company.

But click bait jorunalism keeps the myth Ferrari objects the color scheme floating around....
