New hot rod

My friend will soon wind up his latest project, a 37 Ford coupe. He thinks it will be done in 2-3 weeks, although still a lot of work. He previously did a '38 GMC pickup
but sold that in Florida last winter. This new hot rod is the same color as his truck.
Why mess with a good thing, right?http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1437158118.jpg

OK will do.

A little update. When he came back north this April from Florida, he brought a new fat-man frame in his trailer and he was allset to begin this new project. Drive train was ordered locally and the car (whole) was sitting in his garage all stripped (from the previous fall) and ready for body work and a few mods. (Got rid of rumble seat in favour of a regular trunk) that kind of thing.

So... We had had a terrible winter, and the deck to his house had collapsed
due to the weight of snow. So... He went in the back way with luggage and such, forgot about the deck and stepped out his front door into empty space, and spent the next two months in a wheel chair with torn ligaments and other injuries.

Friends helped with a new deck, and when he was a bit recovered went at this project with a vengeance. He said all along he was driving this car to Florida this
fall. So he's actually a bit ahead of schedule. Went from wheel chair to walking cast, etc. Nothing was going to keep him from this project, and he took it all in with a smile and lots of good humour. So, good on him!

He's the guy sitting at the engine, the other guy is a builder also, he has the grabber orange 36 International pickup. (pic below)http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1437167063.jpg

Not far, but he's a big guy, heavy and was caught totally off guard and unprepared for a fall.

today's update

Things are coming along nicely, check out that grill. 78 yrs old and not a bar out of place. Needed nothing but paint. Even the chrome is original.

Taking it to Florida later this year with a basic interior, and that's where he's arranged for the real interior work to be done.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1437584389.jpg

Done!

My friend said when he was in a wheel chair, from a fall this spring, he'd be coming
to take me for a ride on his birthday (today) Aug 15. So he arrived today right on schedule. Car is done, till he finishes with the interior in Florida this fall.

They'll be a few little things to tidy up, but today was test drive day. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1439648064.jpg

Very nice!
He does great work.

A man of his word despite a setback, like that.
Nice job on the car, like the body color trim on windshield. The mirror stalk from the door hinge, angle match from grill to hood trim stylish!

How was the shakedown cruise?
Will he drive it to Fla. .

That's a BIG TRUNK!

Pass on to him that we are stoked with what he is doing!

Cheers Richard

Well, the test turned into a cruise (150 miles) from my home to the Beaches on the north shore, all of them, Cavendish, Brackley, Stanhope and Dalvay. Also stopped at a few diners and pubs and visited my wife and daughter at Dalvay house a beautiful old Inn, where they were having "high Tea", which is mostly cucumber sandwiches and lots of wine. Had a blast, both cars ran well. His maybe ran a little warm, 190 or so. He was hoping the rear suspension would settle a bit, looks like he'll have to lower it by 1or 2 inches.

Some pics follow.

Shouldn't the No Parking zone have had its stripes repainted black and orange?

john walker's workshop 08-27-2015 06:30 AM

I know of a '37 ford coupe project available with a crate 427, custom frame and suspension, and tons of new parts, probably $60K invested or more, with an extra body. The fellow died and the estate needs to be sold. Probably could be had for 1/2 that amount, maybe less.
