An older middle eastern guy walked on to our property in the middle of the city asking to buy the house the way it is now. We had this place gutted and it in drywall stage ready to paint and put back in the market within 3 months. This guy just wouldn't go away insisting, "I got money, I no poor, I give cash for house now." I am sick of em'. Here's the big question, why is it that these people are usually foreign, Middle eastern, Eastern Europeans (yes, I stereotype here, but these hustlers all seem to be from that part of the world) or younger guys, and no middle aged or older Americans doing this. I am sure they are flipping homes, or high dollar cars because they have the money for a business like it. Maybe I am in a big west cost city, how bout' you guys out there in other parts of the country? I am sure they are out on the east coast. |

I have found that when folks roll up talking a lot of schitt about buying your car, it is mostly schitt-talk. So, instead of the time wasting, lets get down to business. No cash money? Beat it. You want the car? Prove it. |

I had a guy follow my into a store and ask how much I want for my El Camino. I told him it is not for sale for anything like reasonable money. He offered me $9K. I laughed and said not even close. I told him nothing under $30 will get me to talk any more about it and I walked off. Yea, I know it is not worth near that. I really don't want to sell it.

I hadn't experienced this until a couple of weekends ago. Usually when I take out the Porsche - it is for a run, not a run and stop. But, there was a little car show at a local rock-a-billy bar, so I took Welpe, parked and went inside the bar to listen to the music... Some guy followed me in asked if it was for sale - I said 'sure, everything is for sale for the right price', he asked how much, I said 50k (not really interested in selling it right now)... that was the end of that conversation. I was asked again when I was getting ready to leave, standing by the car, different guy, same question, same answer, this time, he wanted to haggle, "12K?", told him I was firm on the 50K... I would think a car show would be the last place you would try to haggle down someone on the price of their car.

I have several Porshhh's. A 76 930, an 86 930, 2 911's and a few parts cars. I owned a few others too including a 90 964 C4 Targa and an 87 944. They are all Porshhh's, just saying.

If it was some nice guy really looking for a 911, I'd be nice. But it never is. It's always some scumbag. I just tell them to fk off. I have a bit of a pugilistic personality so I have no problem doing this.
When I had Seahawk's 356 a few years ago, there was one guy who got told to fk himself more the once. I said, "what are you doing here? I thought I told you to go fk yourself." :) |
It is often just BS talk. At least if it happens at the gas station.
There are quite a few enthusiast flippers too. Guys who know their cars and still are looking for a deal. Maybe they luck out here and there, but I wasn't born yesterday. Most people that have a 911 nowadays have heard about the run up in prices and if anything, have too high expectations. Every dog is a $50k car now in the owner's eyes. I have to admit - I have left a couple of "want to sell"? notes on derelict looking cars with straight bodies when my buddy was looking for a roller. It doesn't always mean there is a flipper behind it. G |
I don't like em' pestering meany more then your guys, but what's wrong with flippers? They are in business to make a buck, no? I think most of us like dealing with professionals, not some punk kid with his baseball cap backwards with pants hanging down past his ass asking to buy your old 911?

It's about the cars not the money ^^
Money follows the cars, but generally flippers screw people over as they aren't enthusiasts. With that said, I do know a couple guys who walk around with a **** ton of cash just in case they find something they want. |

This is my approach, and I've only tried this once, at a time when I didn't have the cash.
"Hey, nice 993." Or some other reference to the model, indicating that I knew a bit about it. "How many miles..." And some other small talk about usage, care, etc. "Have you ever thought of selling it?" And this is where the conversation gets interesting. They'll either throw out a number or say something like 'not for sale'. If they say, not for sale, I just give them my phone number and say, "if you do decide to sell, please call me. I'm really interested. It's for me, not for resale." And that's the truth. If they say a number, maybe I'll negotiate if I had the cash. And then I would have a walk-away price, as someone has said, prices can be looked up on the interwebs. |

Don't ever talk to an auto dismantler either. Just a bunch of flippers. The "I hate flippers" mindset amazes me. We have threads where posters have bragged about a major score of stereo equipment at a yard sale or a watch at a Goodwill store where they stole the item at a fraction of the value. Where is the righteous indignation when those people get a great deal that the seller has under-valued? No concerns for taking advantage of folks that don't know what its worth because the poster was getting the good deal. In my neighborhood we call that two-faced. |

In today's world, with the entire knowledge of mankind available in your pocket, there is no excuse for anyone to be victimized by "flippers" or anyone of the sort. What someone does with a newly acquired purchase is completely up to them. If anyone is nice/lazy/naive/stupid enough to sell something below market value, well, there is simply no excuse and no blame can be assigned.

I now make it a point to stop and talk to everyone with an air-cooled 911 and re-remind them how much in value they have gone up lately.... eh-hem, after I ask them if they will sell it to me....jk.
If I can save one guy from getting ripped off, it's well worth it. Fwiw, I've lost count on how many people have asked to buy my 911's. Nearly all of them were looking to flip it.... hardly one real enthusiast. Sad My advice: over insure it, tracking device and 9mm...in that order. |

Because once in a while, whatever price I had in my head, was way above what they eventually mention. Done deal when that happens. What does amaze me, is when a already below market price, people attempt to haggle anyway. |
House flippers have gotten pretty annoying around here, to the point that some like to stop by on weekends and bother us at home about a couple of our rentals.
"No thanks, they're part of our retirement plan" normally gets them to go away. For the others, it would be nice if there was a way to send someone to their door all the time to bother them at home... |
