Sailors Question on item

Manufacturer unknown.

What I do know is there are 6 available, 42-44 inch.

It appears to be a Stainless Steel steering wheel for a sailboat.

Assuming good condition, not pitted or warped what is one of these worth on the secondary market, if there is a secondary market.

How fast would they go at say $250-450 a piece.

Little to no market value....sailboats come with wheels. If someone "upgrades, it is for a custom wheel like carbon fiber or the vintage wood look. Not so sure that is a boat wheel....does it have splines or a key way?

Something Mike said to me just after I moved down here and had "a thing" with the local school Administration.

Hard to tell, looks like splines.

Can't really think what else it would be.

That one looks to have a little pitting.

The other thing is, a wheel that size would be for a fairly large boat, like in the 50' to 70' range. That is going limit potential customers somewhat.

I'm aware that boats already come with wheels just like cars.

But there is a market for new wheels so it stood to reason there might be a market for used ones if they are in fact used and not NOS.

**** happens and stuff breaks.

Anyway, 6 of them popped up locally, the seller called them steel "Wagon Wheels" (it's TX, people decorate with wagon wheels) and I commented that they looked like sailboat steering wheels. Seller wants $15 a pop for them.

A bit later out of curiosity I googled sailboat wheels and lo and behold wheels that big go for some nice coin.

Figured it was worth the time to ask if they might be flippable. Always like to find things to add to the P Car bucket.

Thanks for the feedback.

The better question is... How the hell does someone in Dallas have 6 of those?

Quite possible they are actually from a piece of farm equipment and not for a sailboat at all.

Scrape value runs ~$0.28/lb. Let that be your negotiating point of you're thinking of flipping.

LOL, first thing I thought of, damn things would have to weigh 100 lbs each to make a 50% profit.

Not worth it.

Sto Mo from Flo Mo...I have connections in Newport. $15 each is a serious bargain and they could be sold (eventually) for much much more than that. Shipping to the Providence Plantations would be pricey though.

That might be the case. It would be unusual for a sailboat wheel (especially that large) to have splines rather than a keyway.

Boats have "helms", not "steering wheels"...
