Old Books

What do you do with old books. Can't throw them away.

You will probably get a few offers here to take the car books off your hands.
After that you can always donate to goodwill or salvation army or whatever thrift store you like.
Note to self: Need to dig out some of my old books, I have some books on airplanes that are pretty low quality (color drawings no photographs) but interesting.
Also have the old Time/Life photo series (but not the whole series).

You can sell used books on Amazon.com or just donate them to goodwill or whatever.

I keep mine. Someday I will give them to the library.

Here's how we do it in Portland. Little houses on the sidewalk are everywhere - take one, leave one (or a bunch!)

You could give the car related books as gifts in the PPOT Gift Exchange.....:)

Looks like I'm going with a combination of the VA and Big Brothers Big Sisters.

I have been considering starting a lending library here on PPOT when I have time this winter for the books I have.
I'd planned to post the Porsche, racing, aircraft, and WWII books I have and take requests. I'll send the book to the 1st requester and expect him to forward the book or DVD to the next requester and so on. I want to share the books I've accumulated with people who really appreciate them and we're very like minded here. I don't know if it would work.

I take them to the Senior Center

I've done that with Danimal, great great great experience, mostly because he's such a great guy.

LOL, books are free on the honor system but the rocking chair is chained and padlocked.
What does that say about our priorities?

"Free" piles are prevalent in Portland, too. I'm sure these folks that put up the little kiosk might have thought that someone would think the chair was free too; but perhaps they had a different purpose in mind - sit down, browse through the free books and take the ones that caught their eye, all at the recipients leisure. Things can be pretty casual up here.

Hence the chain? Or, maybe they lost three rocking chairs and finally had to resort to locking it up. I don't know.

I just saw it as a free source of a chuckle.

I know you did, I thought it was pretty funny too. That chain wouldn't hold a newborn kitten.

Oh, I think it might.

Crowbob 09-29-2015 06:01 PM

I keep my old books.

Let the heirs deal with 'em.

Problem solved.

masraum 09-29-2015 06:14 PM

We have a chain called "half price books" here in Houston. You won't get much, and in some cases for some books you won't get anything, but we usually sell our stuff to them.

Half Price Books, Records, Magazines

We've also sold them at yard/garage/rummage sales.
