The young man is absolutely correct about one thing: he has a great, great life ahead of him.

Great post....cheers to you and your son, Paul!

daepp 03-18-2016 04:06 PM

Best of luck to your boy, Paul.

It seems like you raised a fine young man sir - God bless you for that.

in my experience. very little diminishes good looks and confidence.

And....good trees bare good fruit. Congrats.

There's a joke in here about "perspective" but I'm too tired to come up with one.

You have every right to be proud of your son, but don't forget that you played a major role in him becoming the man he is today.

TheMentat 03-18-2016 11:30 PM

That's a great piece of prose there...

Congrats on raising a son with such a great attitude!

jhynesrockmtn 03-19-2016 06:33 AM

Congrats to your son and your family. You've obviously done an amazing job. He has a great perspective on life. Hopefully we'll get a chance to meet on a future trip. I'd love to hear more about him!

sounds like a great kid. congrats on that.
is an ocular prosthesis not an option?

cashflyer 03-19-2016 12:03 PM

He can still be a pilot, should that be a direction he wants to go.

He's young enough that AV might be a very real prospect in the not too distant future:

Artificial Vision 2015

Seahawk 03-20-2016 07:28 AM

Thanks you all for your kind comments. I m honred that he is my son.

His Dr.'s have given him a few years to decide which route he wants to take. We'll be supportive either way. He really have been focusing on gradation. He has been accepted into law school but wants to take a year off and work.

We talk about this all the time. We always do a father/son cruise in Choc's old 560SL when he comes home. Friday was perfect so off e went with the top down. He drives. That is all we talked about.

The future of artificial vision is very real and, as you can imagine, a subject he is very familiar with!

Again, thanks and best to all.

Paul....glad to hear that the ol SL is being put to proper use! It's good that she's in your hands. Kudos to your son. Mine just contracted with the Army. He's in his 3rd year studying Aerospace Engineering at GA Tech. Very proud of him.

Life is good, and your son clearly knows that!

recycled sixtie 03-20-2016 07:47 AM

Well done Paul. He sounds like a great son. Triumph over adversity.

That is a very hard pull these days, congratulations!

Jack, of course, lost his ROTC scholarship but he was doing well enough academically to earn some grants.

All the best, Mike and please let your son know how proud I am that he will serve his country!

Find Jack among his Rats:cool:

Paul,

Great pic! This may be a weird question, and please tell me if I'm out of line, but how is it they pulled his ROTC scholarship for the eye injury? Sounds like he is a great leader and student. My son is a 2nd Lieutenant several weeks from his first deployment and went through ROTC. I could only hope he would have handled this type of adversity half as well as Jack as I see him facing many significant things in the months/years ahead.

According to the rules, he is no longer physically qualified. He has no issues with that. The folks at VMI were as kind, sad and professional as they could have possibly been. I was very impressed with how well they treated Jack, worked with the Army and helped him work through the process.

In my day, I knew perfectly good pilots who were bounced from flight school when they failed the eye exam half way through flight school...I earned my wings and then failed the eye exam two years later: No worries, here are your goggles. It is what it is.

Best to your son. He is a very impressive young man, Jerry.
