BMW airhead ring gap

Hello,

I know there's quite a few of you on here with ol' BMW airheads,

The ring gap spec I could find for an r60/2 with 72mm (stock) pistons was

.25-.40 mm.

My ring gap with a cylinder hone and new rings is about .50mm.

So the $500-600 question is: Is it a big deal?

I bet this bike is going to see about 500 miles a year. I'm almost done and $400 for a set of 72.5 pistons doesn't really sound like fun.

I've also seen some stuff out there about buying a set of 1st oversize (72.5) rings, and filing the end until the gap is in spec. Sounds medium-fishy. Not incredibly fishy, but not too exciting.

thanks

I had a R60....... .10 MM Ring Gap won't keep you from getting run over by the bus behind you leaving stoplights......Live on the Edge I say......(What is more important is piston/cylinder clearance?)

Thank you, I've looked all the usual places and absorbed what's been said, I just thought it might be also helpful to ask here.

'Cause Pelicans and their opinions and all that.
