I always loved this style of 356, being a kit you can molest without giving your banker a heart attack :D . Drop in a Raby Type IV slightly massaged and you have a nice sleeper. Talk me out of it guys ;)

This is the best view of all the pics in the ad, and it's not flattering. The owner doesn't think enough of the car to present or display it in a flattering light. It looks like it needs a snit ton of finish work to make it decent, the cars in the background look like half finished beaters, which I would extrapolate to mean that the Speedster was slapped together at the last minute to sell.

There are a ton of toy cars out there for 19,000 clams.

Doesn't look that bad to me. Still, before I bought that, I'd save up a bit extra and have a Beck 550 or something.

I don't care what they say, kit cars are still kit cars. Unless the dollars reflect that, pass.

Had an Intermeccanica Speedster years ago. It was a factory built car and well constructed. Decent enough car for what it was and was a lot of fun to drive. I sold it to a buddy ...he had it a few years and took it to auction and made money on it. I paid 6...sold it to him for 8500.00 and he got 12.

Worth it going to look at that one and seeing it for yourself. Might be an 8k car and you can pick it up for that.

^ That's the point. There are a ton of beautiful Intermeccanica cars out there with a high degree of fit and finish for far less money than this guy is asking, and you might not end up taking a big bath.

There's a Beck 550 on BAT that sold for 27000 back in December 2014. It needs a lot of refreshing, but I'd sure rather spend my time polishing a 550 clone than trying to sort out this thing.

When someone starts out wanting 19000 dollars for an 8000 dollar car, I just stay away.

I wouldn't consider this one because it has the Turbo Flares.

Nothing wrong with kit cars if they are built correctly.

Talk you out of it, yup, two words "kit car."

In my opinion as worthless as it might be, is I would always kind of feel like I was living a lie. Guy at work at a very nice Shelby Cobra kit car- more like a replica as he went all out on it, but if someone asked what it was, he would state it was a Cobra- neglecting to mention it wasn't real- all the car guys would mock that part behind his back.

I also think the only good thing about a kit car would be the actual building of it- I really think that would be a fun thing, just wouldn't want it after it was built.

I think pictures usually show a car better than it is. I would keep looking unless you see it in person and it really is a better car.
I think a well done car like a speedster is the only kit car I like.

OP yanking chains. Ray engine? Aren't they 20k with a year waiting list? Sure buy a phony car then a phoney overpriced motor. Makes sense��

Now, I own a Speedster kit car, and while she "LOOKS" like a Porsche, even has some real Porsche parts (and I'm have a Porsche 914 engine with a 911 fan kit & 912 5 speed that may find their way into it) but I know, that underneath that pretty Porsche "Styled" body, it is a VW..:D

Course, I can actually enjoy my clone, if it was the "Real Deal " I would have a hard time enjoying her. Now, if I could ever find my Mother's old Speedster and manage to acquire her

Yep, same price and this is from a dealer. Wheel and deal a little, and who knows, you might have a presentable replica for reasonable money. That car shows very well in pictures.

(And not only are the flares too damn wide on the OP, but the tires don't even come close to filling the opening.)

The flares kill it for me. I've seen modified kits with more subtle flares that I really like, so I'm not an anti-knock-off purist. But with those fenders you need a pink Zoot Suit, a big gold watch chain, and a big floppy hat when driving it to complete the look.

Car guys getting snooty about somebody's ride is kinda crappy.

I've built over a dozen kits, reproductions, hotrods, I really don't care what you call them, some are truly badass. My Outlaw Performance '41 Willys with 502 Chevy would put most anything to shame in a straight line. My Kirkham cobra was a work of art and my Factory Five Daytona Coupe tore up Limerock. All of the fun without the fear of driving something really expensive. Of course there were some bombs. My Classic Roadsters Sebring MX was not engineered well and gave "kits" a bad name.

I say go with what ever works for you and be proud!
