When did the Impreza become a douche-mobile?

So there I was, driving down Speer, when next to me I spot one of those V10 Audi R8s. I love the way those sound! I wanted to hear it so bad. Unfortunately, there was some nice kid in a flat-brim bro hat right in front of me in a WRX. Stupid thing sounded like Jonathan Winters farting into an empty 55-gallon drum. Come on, MAN!

Rant over

As always, you have your finger on the pulse of current pop culture...

Bugsinrugs 10-26-2015 04:20 PM

Why Jonathan Winters? Why not Jackie Chan?

Arizona_928 10-26-2015 04:21 PM

Called a Blow Off valve. Kids get the idea to throw a large horn looking BOV on those cars and think it's cool with the sploosh of boost being bled off between shifts.
Look up used prices on STI's, and you'll see.

Norm K 10-26-2015 04:28 PM

Wait, you're in Denver and just discovering that the Impreza can be a noisy little biatch?

sammyg2 10-26-2015 04:54 PM

They also hold the world record for most freeway lane changes made in 5 minutes without gaining an inch of ground.

Jrboulder 10-27-2015 12:59 AM

I'm pretty sure the whole front range area is the epicenter of subaru impreza douchedom.

That's one of the few nice things about phoenix... very few subarus.

I guess it all started when I bought my first one in 2009. SmileWavy

sc_rufctr 10-27-2015 01:30 AM

 FART CAN... What a waste of titanium.

Part of the fast and furious wigger movement which, according to certain scholars (me), eventually merged with the monster energy fad. The wigger movement then began a change from loser white kids trying to act thug to loser white kids being dumbasses all by themselves without taking so many cues from black thugs.

Gogar it's surprising you're just seeing this! But I commend you for your disdain of flat brimmed hats.

Next lesson will be on the lame poser phenomenon of ________ life. Hint: salt is the most obvious one in coastal areas but there are many others.

When did the Impreza become a douche-mobile?

According to Wikipedia, some time in 1992

Honda Civic, Miata, Subaru... dare I say even Porsche and BMW are not safe from the "stance" crowd.

berettafan 10-27-2015 08:07 AM

RWB?

I was at super car Sunday and all these little backwards hat douches were drooling all over an RWB 911. Ironically the RUF yellow bird 2 cars down could kick its ass around a track and nobody was even looking at it!

vash 10-27-2015 09:25 AM

3 times..i can remember it clearly.

3 times i have tried on a flat billed cap. i INSTANTLY look stupid. i cant pull the look off. i think some guys can. they look cool and hip. me, not so much.

the car? i love them!! i wouldnt mod one so badly, but the car themselves are very kickass and capable for a jolly good time. i'd give Mr. Winters a heart attack.

Tobra 10-27-2015 09:27 AM

I am not sure, around 2001 maybe, how is it you are just noticing this?

puddy 10-27-2015 10:00 AM

...as soon as average young drivers could afford the used subies...

Same thing with BMW & Merc's where i'm from, I don't think they sell them with turn signals anymore.

tcar 10-27-2015 10:08 AM

It's not the BOV

It's the silver-painted Folger's coffee can instead of a muffler.

The flat 4 makes it worse.

Those d*** things are everywhere here.

+1.

They sound "off", through a free flow exhaust, even without the fart can. I don't know why this is; unequal length headers perhaps?

I've had Subies for many years.

Nostril Cheese 10-27-2015 12:47 PM

A friend of mine is a computer programmer with an WRX.

He has spent countless amounts of money making this car into a rocket. ZERO money spent trying to become a better driver.

All kinds of silly things, like relocating the battery to the back to redistribute weight.... right next to the two massive subwoofers
It sounds like a warmed over VW Type 1.

Thanks, I'm calling Google Maps now and letting them know.

The Impreza WRX/STi certainly doesn't have the nicest-sounding boxer engine.

They do have quite some potential though; there was a 600+ hp WRX at a past Texas Motor Speedway Friday Night Drags event I went to that easily outran a GT-R almost immediately upon launching.

STI's have been around for a few years now, 10? When they first came out I knew a couple of fairly well off dudes that were getting over 500hp out them with little more than bolt-ons.

Those early cars are now falling into the hands of the civic crowd. Off the showroom floor they are twice the price though so it takes a while for it to trickle to douche level.

one of the few cars that works well, out of the box. WIth the exception of quieter tires, and possibly Koni Adjustables when they are available, it's a great ride.

that's the one thing about owning this- there are so many dip****s out there modding just to "Mod" their cars- SURPRISE! engine goes kaboom and they blame Subaru for making a "weak" engine. It's comical to see the kids just do something, anything so they can talk about how "Modded" they are online.

Here's a hint guys: 1) A CAI and a bigger exhaust would've been done from the factory if it was needed- it's not like Subaru didn't figure those tricks out already.

2)- a "tuner" is usually just a bro with a laptop. He don't know **** either. Crank up everything until big #'s show up, warranty voided and hope it holds together...
