Dyson Sphere-1400 lightyears away...
Would that be cool, or what??? Of course, any info we have is, well 1400 years old, but that makes it even cooler. Possible?
'Giant alien megastructure found in space': What is a Dyson sphere, and what else could we have found? | Science | News | The Independent |
There's about a one in 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 chance that it's a Dyson Sphere.
It's a huge jump to a conclusion, much like saying "oh look, a light I haven't seen before in the night sky, it must automatically be three-headed aliens from Uranus come to mutilate my cows". |
LOL. Image of a partially obscured star = obviously an alien megastructure made to harvest energy from the star.

This was discovered a few weeks ago. I thought it had already been shown to be a cluster of planets or debris.

Just some Sunday morning science (fiction) to ponder. Of course it's unlikely, but an interesting premise to consider, no?

I think something like that would be cool too, but, I think this is more of an amazing story from the standpoint of how some scientist mentioned a possibility as a longshot "what the heck" type of statement, which was then twisted and promoted by "click-bait" type yahoo articles to get user hits by insinuating it actually was alien technology, even when the original scientist find the story's runaway status laughable. This story has been going on for a while, and doesn't seem to die.
Me, personally? I think we are watching actual byproduct of the death star assault in the original start wars movie. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1446384274.jpg The numerous fighters would have a dimming effect. It was a long time ago in a galaxy far far away. If we hear a "yee haw" from outerspace and see a big flash, then we know luke and han were successful. Others suggest a star surrounded by bigfoots, which is dimming the light, however, that's ridiculous: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1446384490.jpg |
If it were correct it would say a lot about the slim of intertellar travel and colonization just as much as anything else. If that sort of thing were remotely probable that would probably have been over here already.
