little bit of Cajun history
a cistern like this was the only source of household water at my great grandparents home besides the bayou behind their property. when we visited, you had a choice of greenish tinted water with bugs in it, homemade blackberry wine or warm milk fresh from the source. . another relative had rainwater from the gutters collected in a couple rusty 55gal drums that had a light brownish tint and metallic flavor, but had window screen covering the barrel that kept most of the bugs out ..the worst water was from a great great aunt's well water. looked like and tasted like someone added a handful of rusty nails to your glass of water http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1450794288.jpg |
