Racing a personal legend
As the days get a bit longer, the racing season seems closer to reality. This year will be special for me due to the fact that I bought one of my best friend's last race car over the winter from his family and will soon be prepping it for this season. Bruce started like I did in Formula Vees with his buddies more than a dozen years ago. He passed last October after a fierce battle with a very rare form of leukemia. I met this crew in 2008 when I began vintage racing and they became some of my best friends. We raced together, cycled together, ate and drank together, I met my wife through them, they've become a big part of my life. Bruce was often the glue that held this group of friends together. I'm honored to be able to continue developing Bruce's 914-4 and hopefully honor his legacy of being a gentleman on the track and a good friend to those who are part of this community. The #20 was his first race car, an RCA Formula Vee. The cars in our club carry this sticker as a small remembrance of Bruce who did so much for his friends, family and fellow racers. RIP Bruce!

So sorry for the loss of your friend, Jerry. What an awesome car.
My dad was also Bruce, so you have two well cared for cars from Bruces. :) |
Thanks Denis and your Dad's car is much loved. Peggy absolutely adores it as do I.

Sorry for the loss.
Looks like you have a great history already with the car and may you help to write more with it. Duke Zink (I'm a 69 Zink lol) |
What a fine write up about your friend Jerry. I'm sure it will bring you an extra measure of satisfaction and pleasure to be keeping Bruce's car on track and still a presents within your club. Or as would be said here Ohana ( extended family )
And its a worthy goal to continue his kind spirit in your use of the car. If I get back up your way soon I'll be sure to look for the yeller 914 at the vintage events. I think I'd enjoy your crew! Cheers Richard Has your FV. Found a new home yet? Not sure how it would fit towing behind the 911, behind the motorhome |
Great post. Best of luck!
