Porsche "Our Return" LeMans Documentary

Anyone else watch this yet? Pretty neat 50 min video about the winning LeMans effort!

Fantastic season, not just the WEC and Le Mans win but for all of Porsche Motorsport program.

The most (pleasantly) surprising thing I learned working with PM is that, of course they're passionate about their work, but also they're very much down-to-earth, easy going people. For some reason I imagined them to be not very approachable, but that's not true at all. My main contact, a development group leader, once joked about Webber knocking on his office window from outside telling him to put in more effort, at hours already approaching midnight. It's the same guy who has been with PM since the 911 GT1 days, so as someone who is just starting out at the other end of the career, it is really nice to see someone like him still getting excited about the job after all that time. It's not surprising at all that a team made up of people like these can win everything in their 2nd season back.

You work for Porsche Motorsport? How do you get a gig like that?! And are they hiring in AZ? ;)

Won 01-28-2016 02:40 PM

No, not yet anyway ;) We supply them with composite parts and I manage their projects. I would say this has been the next-to-best dream job. Unfortunately I'll be leaving my company soon, but then I'm moving to Germany to join a WRC team, so in a way it's getting close to that Porsche dream!

With regards to where they're hiring, I know it's a tongue in cheek question but for me while I was living in Vancouver, it was nothing more than a dream to work at PM. So I really didn't expect that within 2 years of moving to Europe, I could say that I contributed to their Le Mans effort. It really is a simple case of you have to go where the job is, and that's partly why we're again moving to a new country (of course the new job will be great fun and I'm really looking forward to it). Did I mention I have a very understanding and supportive wife? :)

I watched it in HD on my 50" tv and it was pretty great. Need to go somewhere with killer sound and watch it again though!

tophericks posts - "I would say this has been the next-to-best dream job." with embedded links in the tail end of course.

Seems that new userid tophericks dream job right now is a spammer. (reported)

I liked the way the Porsche team rallied back after their first difficult test.

Thanks for posting this, made me a little emotional as I've been through all the up and down's, highs and low's the guys at Porsche Motorsport have gone through on their journey to victory.

From winning Le Mans outright at the first attempt, being at the circuit when you're convinced you might have been responsible for killing a driver to losing a F1 world championship two corners from the end of the last race of the season.

I love motorsport and one day when I grow up I might find a proper job :)

Won, most people in team's like PM are down to earth, motorsport has a ruthless habit of filtering out the others. Good luck with your WRC family and I'm sure you'll fit right in. Let me know when you need some help as I've got a WRC itch that I need to scratch one day.

M.D. if you're son wants to work for a company like Porsche Motorsport as a dad I'm sure you'll give him all the encouragement and support he needs. If anyone tells him he might be aiming too high, send them my way and I'll explain what a few motorsport mad kids with dreams can achieve if they work hard enough.

Hi Captain, thanks for the kind words. If you are free sometime in the next 2 weeks before I leave Oxford, I would still love you to buy you a drink. SmileWavy
