Weekend to kill in Amsterdam

I have been voluntold that I have to go to Amsterdam for a 10 days for work... 7 of those days I had already booked off but that's another story.

I will be there over a weekend with nothing to do. I was over there in September (also for work) and have been to Europe lots before.

What should I do?

1. Hang around Amsterdam and take in the sights?
2. Go visit my in laws in Scotland?
3. Go visit the guys who bought the chump car 911 from me in England?
4. Go to Stuttgart and chech out the Porsche museum?

I am leaning towards #4. I have never been to Germany before and I would like to see the Porsche Museum...

Stuttgart is a long drive from Amsterdam. Don't believe the maps. Traffic around Stuttgart is horrible. If staying in Amsterdam, go see Anne Frank's house, the Heineken brewery, walk the red light district at night, etc. Very awesome town. If you must go to the Fatherland, Aachen is the first town across the border. Charlemagne's tomb is in the cathedral there. Cologne is less than an hour from there.

I have a bunch of Klm miles. I thought I would either fly or take the train to Stuttgart.

Things to see in Amsterdam.

Rijksmuseum
Van Gogh Mueseum
Vondelpark
Stedelijk museum
Heineken tour
Red Light District (Its worth a look at night).

Eat some rollmops, kroketten, bitterballen and frikandellen. Get some stroopwafels too.
And yes, they put mayo on fries (its good)

Don't worry about the language, everyone there speaks English. Oddly enough, Dutch is kinda similar to English. Enjoy your trip. Proost!

Stay in Amsterdam and do what is suggested above.....Buy an all day Canal tour ticket for both the red and blue line. You can get off to see sights/have lunch and then get back on the next boat. You will see the whole city. Enjoy.....Be careful walking, latest hazard is texting bicycle riders. Had a couple of near misses last year.

Not only is traffic horrible around Stutgart, it the same around every big German city coming and going. Doing the Autobahn at 5 mph is no fun.

The Amsterdam episode of The Layover w/ Anthony Bourdain was pretty good.

I thought the Van Gogh was awesome. Make sure it's open if you want to go there.

Timely post. We are overnighting in Amsterdam in mid-March before going to a relative's 80th birthday just across the border in Germany.

BTW, the last two times I have booked this itinerary, I got a $200+ discount by buying the flight and rental car via Expedia.
