Bmw m2

Have not seen much Pelican discussion about this new car. I think it will be the business and apparently MotoGP agrees. Base price is $51K which is a lot of money but will also about the fee for a nice G50 carrera these days.:(

This car is what the M3 should be.

The 2016 BMW M2 is a steroid-addled M235i [UPDATE]

I'm sure it is more fun than a barrel full of lesbians but the front end is very... um...

I can't look at any new BMWs, that stupid screen stuck on top of the dash in all of 'em ruins it for me.

Same for the C-class Mercedes. Looks to be an afterthought...like at the last minute someone said, "Oh chit, we forgot the all-important video screen...guess we'll just stick one up here." Looks really cheesy to me too.

I love my M235i, which is not far off from an M2. The M2 has a wider body, quad exhaust and forged pistons/rods. Consumer reports has rated them very highly and the N55 engine is very reliable. A simple flash tune can net you over 400 HP and 400+ ft/lbs of torque and the damn car stops from 60-0 in something like 110 feet stock. I special ordered mine with a manual trans and a sunroof delete, I am hoping to keep it for 10+ years and put 200k on it. I have a BMW VM image I found online with all of the diagnostic software and the workshop manuals on it; very intuitive and not difficult at all to use.

The screen is actually well placed in the 2 series. It doesn't distort the view at all and you can easily save the function to turn the screen off to a preset button. It has a memory setting in the car so the screen wont turn on when you start the car. I wouldn't have purchased the screen with the car if it was offered though.

OP, why did you have to start this thread? I was perfectly happy in my little world, and then you had to make us aware of that beautiful machine. Now I want one!

being the destroyer of happiness is hard work!!:D

It's the first new car that has caught my eye since the 80s.

I think this is correct. The 1M series was analogous to the 2002 turbo as the M2 is to the spirit of the E30 M3. Imo, everything post E36 M3 has become a separate branch of the BMW M lineage...Mostly terrific cars but not small or light-weight.

I could see a stripper version of the M2 for the most hardcore Bimmerphiles.

That article is a little wrong in a couple of ways and it is for the M235, (not the recently introduced M2)...
-The car has huge 4 piston Brembo Brakes (Bigger than 951 brakes - that datasheet is wrong.)
- The top speed limiter can be removed with an ECU flash (although mine has the 160MPH limit, plus how many of you are going to exceed that?)

It is correct on these issues:
-Electric steering is indeed a little bit of a letdown but all cars are going this way (Mazda, Porsche, etc)
-No oil temp gauge (A lot of people purchase a P3 vent gauge which can tell them this and additional information).
-The active sound is annoying but anyone can code it off

Even though R&T complains about it, Car and Driver has listed it in their top 10 cars since the car has been released: 2016 10Best Cars: The Winners, Features, Photos, and More – Feature – Car and Driver. Also, it was faster than the 1M around the nurburgring and faster in a straight line than the previous generation E90 M3.

^^ Is that thing for real..? I imagine if so we won't get them here.

CJFusco 02-16-2016 12:15 PM

If that M2 Wagon is real, I really, really want one.

dan79brooklyn 02-16-2016 05:55 PM

Over here in Japan. The 1 series is very popular. There is the M135i which I think is the equivalent of the M2 which is only available as a 2 door coupe.
But in the popular four door hatchback style, you can also have a 130i with the M sport package which comes with a six speed.
It appears to have the non turbocharged inline 6.
Looks like a sweet car. I would love to replace our GTI with one of them.

I like it... I'd like it more if it wasn't only 40 lbs lighter than an M3 (US model withh be portlier than euro one) ! I'd like it even more with hydraulic power steering. But it's got a stick, it does not look like a pregnant kitty anymore (like the 1 series), and it probably scoots !

Thing is for $50+, I want it to be my dream car. I'd still rather have a used Cayman S or 997 in that range !

Rinty 02-18-2016 11:24 AM

M2 got a rave review in the Globe & Mail. Said it was "more than a match" for the Cayman. :)
