Dash Cams?
Thinking of getting one for the RV, because people cut off RVs all the time. Maybe this one, which is dirt cheap.
http://www.amazon.com/GS8000L-Traveling-Recorder-Camcorder-Dashboard/dp/B014KUCNF0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1455920142&sr=8-1&keywords=dash+cameras Any thoughts pro or con on buying and using one? Yeah, I know that if I eff up it can be used against me, assuming they can find it. And if I buy one, wouldn't this $30 one do the job as compared to the $100 units. I don't care if it erases and re-records. I'm probably only interested in the last 30 seconds or so. The Amazon reviews are mixed on this particular item, but the general sentiment is for $30 its not too bad. |
I drive 22 miles each way to work every day so I got one. I don't need it 99% of the time but if something were to happen, it will be nice to have.
Honestly the best thing about it is showing people at work any accidents/idiots I catch on camera. I moved it to my 968 one weekend and forgot to put it back in my DD and of course, missed a BAD motorcycle accident right in front of me. I say for $30, it can really help in some cases, provides entertainment in others but mostly is just there "in case" |
geekpro 2.0. 1080P, $70. you can see the results on facebook, the rat race. d.

Nice, I can't tell if it comes with a suction cup mount for the windshield. At $30-$100 I'm not price sensitive.
|
it doesn't come with a suction cup mount, but it comes with a huge selection of others. i purchased a suction cup mount, along with a bunch of other trinkets, for another $20.

I've been using a Garmin for about 3 years now.
It still works fine but the internal battery can't hold a charge now and if you don't drive the car for a few days it loses it's date and time settings. I've opened it up thinking I could replace the battery but I haven't been able to find a replacement anywhere. (The clear plastic front is secured with double sided tape. The screws to open the case are under this) It's a 3.7 volt silver flat pack. There's an Ebay seller based in Hong Kong selling these but the details and dimensions are vague. |
Call Garmin, the service department is very proactive.

They have always been helpful to me. They can at least source the replacement battery. A lot of the knock off Chinese batteries aren't worth spit. They replaced my wife's GPS for free and it was four years old.

I bought this one about a month ago. I love it so far!

I understand that the GoPro is far more expensive, but aside from the higher price what other differences are there?
|
GoPro is waterproof and almost indestructible.
|
Definitely get the HD version.
|
geekpro is waterproof and i haven't been able to destroy it yet. :)
|
bought the one in my original post. Thanks for the input

Got it today, small, seems rugged enough, the directions suck, but you can figure it out in a few minutes. 10 minute loop with the 8Gig card, but in an accident you only need 30 seconds or less. It has a protect feature to tell it to stop looping and overwriting the previous file. The night LEDs seem pretty good. You can turn it off and it senses when you move the vehicle again and automatically turns on. Acgh, turned off the auto motion sensor, it starts recording every time I pick it up to look at it. I'll try it on the way to work tomorrow.

post up some video so we can see the picture quality, please. :)
|
Gotta figure out how to do that. Open a Youtube account or something, right?
|
you can post them to my FB page, if you want.
