Darn wish I had thought to say that first.

No! This simply cannot be... What a huge loss to the music world. I grew up with these guys... bought everything they ever released... never missed a show when they came to Seattle. I was hoping to catch them again some day. 71 is far, far too young...

Heard Karn Evil 9 in a movie soundtrack. Was hooked. Bought the triple live album "Welcome Back, My Friends, to the Show That Never Ends... Ladies and Gentlemen, Emerson, Lake & Palmer" and then everything else they had.

Me too. Grew up with them. I have an Emerson Lake and Palmer channel on my Pandora and it sees more use than most others. Among my favorite bands of all time. This is heartbreaking from a "man, I'm getting old" perspective, among others.

RIP Keith. You will be missed.

One of my early favorites and they really taught me what well played music was.

Fanfare to the common man

RIP
Always loved their music.
.
This was a band that knew no fear, and it was largely due to Emerson, of whom band mate Carl Palmer says, “Keith was a gentle soul whose love for music and passion for his performance as a keyboard player will remain unmatched for many years to come. He was a pioneer and an innovator whose musical genius touched all of us in the worlds of rock, classical and jazz.”
.
Keith Emerson was a keyboard genius, one of a handful of musicians in rock who were able to stand shoulder to shoulder with their classical counterparts…Emerson, the late Jon Lord and Rick Wakeman are the three keyboard players who everyone holds in high esteem.

Go and play, ‘America; and marvel at its audacity and its brilliance.

Keith Emerson RIP

Sadly, it's being reported that he died from a single gunshot wound to the head, an apparent suicide.

RIP Keith, and thanks for the wonderful music.

71 years old and suicide make me wonder if he recently received bad new...like a terminal medical diagnosis.
