Back in a 911

When I sold my '88 Targa a few years ago, I honestly thought it would be the last air-cooled 911 that I would ever own. Prices were on their way up, and I suspected that by the time I was ready for another, it would be out of my reach. But good luck came my way in the form of a PCA member in AZ, that after 16 years of ownership was ready for a change. So I loaded up my 2008 Roush 427R (mint with under 5k) and headed for Phoenix with wife and kids in tow, intend on a trade and a few days of spring break fun.

So here she is, a 1982 911SC cabriolet with about 66k. The more Porsche astute will quickly note that there was no such thing as a 1982 SC cab, the full story is that the original owner ordered a Targa back in 1982, and while the car was being built Porsche introduced the cab. Wanting a cab instead of a Targa, he paid another over $8k to have it converted to a cab pre-delivery by Porsche. Yes it does include that record, as well as the original window sticker and another 16+ years of history. It is Grand Prix White, my favorite color, over black. The engine was rebuild by Beck's about 3k ago, a stock rebuild with the addition of SSIs and a 2-in 1-out muffler. Original Scottsdale car, always in AZ. When the engine was rebuilt it also got new leather, carpet, Bilsteins, Carrera oil-fed tensioners, and a host of other must-do SC upgrades. It has 16x6/7 Fuchs, Carrera front oil-cooler with fan and duct, Griffiths upgraded A/C condensor and compressor, 930S wheel, Blaupunkt head unit and upgraded speakers/amp, and probably some other stuff that I am forgetting. Everything down to the cruise control works, and it drives fantastic. For those aware of my car trading history, my wife has already said that I'm keeping this one, so I suppose it's settled. It is safely in my garage tonight, and I can't wait to drive it tomorrow.

Pictures are terrible, I know. One is mine from Phoenix, the others are PO detail shots. I'll get a few new ones over the weekend after a proper detail.

Looks great! Same color combo of my 82 SC. Ditch the bra and install some H1s. Congrats!

Noah930 03-16-2016 09:43 PM

Congrats, Matt!

So, uh, how much you askin' for it?

Nickshu 03-16-2016 09:48 PM

What's that blue hose under the dash?

Bet you paid a pretty penny for it considering all the great extras it came with - plus the low miles. I'd say whatever you paid for it was a good deal.

I'm trying to turn over a new leaf! My time gets more and more limited, and I'm tired of getting cars squared away only to sell them and start over. Oddly enough my wife intervened with this one, her first comment was "I really like this one, you aren't selling it". So I may keep her too. I'm going to close up my dealership when my lease runs out in June, and I'll be keeping the RX7 and SC and selling everything else. Now I have to get off of my ass and finish my 3rd car garage addition and get a lift installed.

Duct for the central A/C vent to blow directly on the driver. It hasn't been hot enough to really try it but I definitely see the logic.

Shame on you. That parking lot in the first photo is almost walking distance from my house.

McLovin 03-16-2016 10:01 PM

Nice! I'm partial to GP White too.

Are you sure those are 7/8? Looks like 6s in the front from the pic, hard to tell the back.

What does the factory cab conversion paperwork look like? Can you post a pic of it? Would be really interesting to see (I'm weird that way).

That's the "Jewelz Kewlz" option.

I know dammit. I had the kids, so our time was totally dominated by spring break stuff. We did a Hummer tour of the desert, Goldfield Ghost town, horseback riding, and some hiking. We stayed at Toscana Desert Ridge condos, so right around the corner from that Target.

I'll snap a picture of it. I screwed up on the Fuchs, you are correct that they are 6/7. Brain fart.

Love the ball chiller!

Congrats Matt! Sad I couldn't make it out to see it in person! But you were busy and so I was I! Great car!

Splendid choice! A well set up 915 box is the most sensual driving experience Money can buy. :D

You and I have different definitions of "sensual".:D Really the only upgrade I'm planning is to either a Wevo or Rennshifter, it has a Weltmeister SSK and is typical vague 915 goodness. I'd like to clean up the shifting a little bit and not worry about money-shifts from 5th to reverse if my wife drives it, because she enjoys driving my sports cars.

Wait...is this THE parking lot?

Congrats Matt. That's a great looking car. I'd ditch the tea tray and get a tail-less deck lid, or install a turbo engine to match the tail :D

There's only one in Phoenix, it is quite crowded.

It came with the original non-tail rear decklid, that I will probably swap on at some point.

VERY NICE, Matt....congrats!!!

My very first Porsche was a white '81 SC Targa.

Very iconic!

Please convey my best regards to your wife....she's a credit to the human race!

Drive 'em! :)

LEAKYSEALS951 03-17-2016 05:41 AM

Nice car.
That non original exhaust REALLY hurts the value though. I have an original sc exhaust with the cat.
Be glad to trade even swap! :D
