Porsche Design (watches, sun glasses etc) quality?

I love watches like my wife loves shoes. I have a pretty good collection of watches and have run across some of the Porsche Design models. What is the quality of these watches and other PD accessories?

Any of you own them, and can speak to the quality? Any input is appreciated.

I'm looking at this one below and several large face similar PD models:

You get what you pay for. In this case you are paying for a name and maybe some future resale value if you don't wear it. My $79 Invicta keeps time just as well.

Matt_ you do get what you pay for. And all the purchases of Porsche Design products i have made have been of an excellent quality. I have not bought into watches, but many of their clothes are Made in Italy. Pens and sunglasses are all high quality.
And they stand behind their products if you are not happy. No Chinese, Taiwan, cheap junk.

Probably costs $100 to manufacture that watch.
Talk about Porsche tax, makes all our parts seem almost free!

And my Invicta keeps time just as well. So what is the purpose of the watch? Brag about how much I pay for a watch? Jewelry?

I can buy 80 Invictas for the price of one PD watch. No one will be holding me up to rob me of my Invicta but I guess there are no bragging rights.

I believe that Porsche owns Eterna (or at least that was the case a few years ago when I received a Porsche watch as a gift), so that's the level of quality you get. You can go on those watch forums to get better/more accurate info.

I have a Porsche Design external hard drive I'll sell cheap. It doesn't work but it looks kinda purty.

You have to be careful, there are a lot of "Porsche Design" watches that are cheap Made in China knockoffs.

I have 2 watches I like. One is a custom made watch made by Largo (collectible). The other has a custom face you could have installed on many different styles of Seiko that use the same movement.

May like them just because I was the one that did the face design.

The Porsche Design hard drive is a Lacie hard drive that Lacie hired Porsche Design to design the case. Still just a Lacie hard drive.

I think they sold Eterna to a Chinese corp. a while back. Not 100% sure, but I think all of their watches are made in-house now.

Still, if I were considering a PD watch, I'd look for an older IWC-made variant. Those are the ones to have, and will hold their value (and appreciate) much better, IMO.

The earliest PD watches were junk. Then, they had them made by IWC and those were great. I don't know who makes them now but they apprear to be back to junk. 6 grand will buy you a mch better watch than that.

Eterna was sold to a Chinese company in 2011. PD ended their association with Eterna in 2014. No idea who makes them now but I think the concensus is the quality has gone down from the Eterna days and those watches were nowhere near as nice as the IWC versions.

Like I said, much better watches out there, for the money.

I have three of them including the "Top Gun" Chrono with the Lumania 5100 movement. I also own the limited edition RSR chrono.
The automatic watches are very good time pieces but the newer non-automatic watches seem much cheaper. I bought the RSR watch off a seller on a watch site and was disappointed with the quality of it when it arrived

I can vouch for the authentic clothing. I have several shirts, they are all excellent.

Like anything in life to each his own, but I have actually made money off some of the watches I have owned. Like their cars some other things Porsche makes appreciate in value.
You don't need a Porsche to get around in but people like them, just like you don't need a nice watch to tell the time, but a well made time piece feels good on the wrist. It's not always about the cost.
When I was at Rennsport Reunion the gentleman beside was wearing a Richard Mille watch, it was all beaten up because as he said "it was one of his daily work watches".

As for the Porsche sunglasses, I have a couple of pair (upper left corner) and they are superior in quality. Had a specialty shop repair one set last year and the owner wanted to buy them for $300...case & extra lenses included.
An ex g/f bought them all for me for a little over $100 each 20 years ago in Hong Kong when the dollar was strong. Now they're priced out of sight.

Automatic IWC made PD, very good. The rest, not so much.
The ocean 2000 was so good, it was selected for the german army divers, and the mine sweepers with the AMAG (netic) movement.
There is also one with compass underneath the watch case, very nice.
