![]() Targas are valuable as a means to mobily grow marijuana and poppy plants (think terrarium on wheels !!), and as an exercise in the art of scooting through corners with very little engine power required (referring to the legendary chassis slingshot effect . . . aka - can wipe the taillight lenses, mid-corner, while seated in the car!!). ![]() Not to mention that at least it's not a cab!

First 911 I ever drove was a 1989 930 factory slopenose cabriolet in triple black. No joke. Was my boss's car at the auto broker I worked at the summer after high school. I was already a Porsche fan and had had 911 and 962 posters on my wall for years. That car set the hook deep. That was the one that made me swear to own a 911 by the time I turned 25. I was ten years late on that personal promise. My only regret is that 5 years ago when I had the means to buy a 930 at then current prices I was too interested in longnose love. A mid-80's 930 targa? Hubba hubba.

My first two Porsches (sort of!) were targas/914s - had both in my very early 20s - excellent cars for teens and 20-somethings since they are slower than the slowest of slow (hard to get into trouble with them), still fairly cool despite being powered by Briggs & Stratton, and a good car for a novice, home mechanic to fiddle with. My only real problem with Targa 911s (which isn't a "problem" at all, butt just a matter of personal preference that would keep me from buying one) is the look of the rear glass - totally goofy to me. Dark rear window tint and a Carrera tail helps, but only so much! A Cabriolet 911 = ghastly! Each to their own, though, and variety in motoring is good! I don't mind the glass, but it must must must have a chrome targa bar. If I ever bought a car with a black one, I would have to rip it apart. My 74 had black trim all around when we started on it. That wasn't going to fly. The whole car got converted back to chrome.

Do the servants help your Highness shift and clutch the rearbooster at the present? I suggest that our wagon builder Matt could construct thee a self shifting transmission so that thee can entertain your servant while driving!? |

The rearbooster is so badazz that it clutches, shifts, haulzazz and looks BOSS, all on its own (no servants required), butt you are more than welcome, Christian (the two Matts, too), to visit and help with the process; whenever youse goons are ready to graduate to a man-style motoring experience, that is!!!!

I know most aren't serious (some are), but I don't get the anti targa/cab attitudes at all. No other marque's enthusiasts have the disdain I often hear about in the Porsche community. Typically, when the top goes goes down (or comes off) the price goes up. I'm sure there isn't the same disdain for early speedsters, why the hate on the later cab and targa cars?
(Add the hate to 912, 914, 924s...red cars..etc...etc...as well) MattR Last edited by matt930s; 05-12-2016 at 02:37 PM.. |

Good to see the humor is back! Lots hating going on in the earlier pages. Hey newby find your own punch lines Ronnie owns that terrarium line. Matt I too looked at turbos 3 years ago. They went up 10k in the course of 3 months figured at those prices I'd never drive it. Ended up with an 83 SC coupe. Still love the targa thou.

the first Porsche I ever owned was a 74 911 s targa. I enjoyed it in many ways but I knew that I would sell it at the first decent offer and would run to a coupe and never return to a targa! flexible flyers. the squeeks. the leaks. wow you should see a targa on a lift...just try to open or close the doors. but I sure did enjoy driving with the top off on a sunny day! I always have said buy a targa once...it will be the last. but that's just my opinion. |
