Jeans . . . Head . . . Spinning

I'm in a Levi's store picking up some jeans.

So confusing.

Cuts are 505 regular, 514 straight, 501 original, 541 athletic, 559 relaxed straight. That doesn't even include the womens' 7XX cuts, there's a dozen of those.

Finishes are torn up, khaki, original, white, black, black goose, rigid shrink to fit, clean rigid, rinse, just lived in, rusted rivet, dark stonewash, spring wash, and I ran out of patience.

I have always gotten 501. But they hurt my thighs if I happen to ride a bike in them. So I tried the 541. Not sure who has the thunder thighs that would be necessary to fill those. A 501 with some stretch would be perfect. Can't find them.

Color? So many finishes. Too complicated!. I'm looking for plain old black.

I won't even look in the other jeans stores. This is already taking way too long.

There needs to be a way to subscribe to jeans. Every year, have a couple pairs automatically sent to you, like a magazine.

Had the same experience a year ago. Gave me a freaking headache. Way out of control!

To make matters worse, it wasn't a Levi's store, so it had all the Levi's brands, and then all the other brands and their cuts and sizes. I ran out of there and have not since returned.

I usually just buy anything I can find in 34x36.

mreid 05-29-2016 02:22 PM

Hey, JR, that's my size! They only make like three pairs a year in that size and now I know who buys them all.

Awww man-now I can't get my mind off the jeans buying experience. There were regular waist and low cut waist, and slim fit ones and baggy ones. They had pictures of the jeans on the stereotyped model who was supposed to wear them. I think there was a farmer type guy in the regular cut, an urban hip black dude in the baggy ones, and a JJ Abram's Apple computer type guy in the way too tight cut. Maybe those were the jeans numbers- I can't remember. There were way too many finishes on the pants. I couldn't remember what was in style, or what had been out of style for 20 years. Good god... it was like it happened yesterday.

I just go to County Seat at the mall to buy mine. Of course I need to get in the time machine and go back 40 years to do it.

I like the 560s, roomier in the thigh area for bike riding quads.

mreid 05-29-2016 02:56 PM

Actually the wife buys mine.

Levi's used to make a "Commuter" jean for bike riders. Gray, stretchy denim, water repellent, reflective stripe on the inside (showed when you rolled the cuff), gusset crotch (way more comfortable than the standard jeans crotch), high waistband in back, zippered stash pocket in the rear waistband (holds wallet, phone, etc, at a place where you're not bending). Since discontinued. I have two pairs and I treasure them.

Today, they make "commuter" versions of their regular jeans (541, 511) that have stretchy denim and reflective details. Spendy, though.

Damn. Just checked eBay. If you know what cut and size you want, just buy them on eBay. As cheap as a Memorial Day sale, and you never leave the house.

Quality isn't what it was 30 years ago. Fabric doesn't wear well today.

rwest 05-29-2016 04:12 PM

Good advice John, just got four pairs of 560's. Marked unworn and made in the USA- if true, that would be some nice older ones. I got 32x34 which is the size I can be if I stop shoving junk in my face and get some bike riding in!

Timing was perfect as the auctions were ending in minutes from when I logged on, so I got four pairs for $69.

Best,
Rutager

American eagle active flex. Best denim I have found yet, and $20/pair!

I just bought a bunch of Polo whatever they are jeans. Levis are just way too tight. I like Nautica jeans but the music at Macy's was going to kill me. I had to bail out of there. You have to try jeans on before buying them, which is why I stopped buying them at Costco.

That's why I switched to Wrangler.

Men's Ballroom 5-Pocket Jeans - Duluth Trading

Problem solved...;)

MBAtarga 05-29-2016 06:47 PM

What, you guys don't buy those designer jeans already broken in from Goodwill?

This is the answer. I can't even remember the last time I bought a pair of jeans myself.

jyl 05-29-2016 11:09 PM

When my wife buys me jeans, they are always dad jeans that look terrible. I give them to Goodwill when she isn't looking.

GF buys Levis from the Levi shop online - especially their closeouts.

Argh, my Levis quality had dropped way off with different sizes and fabrics but carrying the same part number. I usually wear 511 Levis but am looking for other options.
