started the transformation to no cable TV
A few months ago I posted on here regarding cutting the cord. Received good feedback and started with an over the air antenna. I have that mounted on the man cave detached garage and it currently is feeding the TV in the garage only. But it can feed the house TV's also. Today I ordered 3 months of Sling TV, with that purchase I will receive a free Roku 2 box. Will add that to one of the TV's in the house and see how we like it. If we do like it will probably order one more for the other large TV we have in the house. If we want to feed the TV's in the bedrooms we may just go with a Roku stick. I downloaded Sling TV app to my laptop and started watching 7 days of free TV. Not bad so far. Aprox. 25 channels for 19.95 a month and I paid 5.00 extra for the sports package. Add to that the 30 + channels we are getting off the antenna we may have a plan to cut out the cable. Need to make sure the wife can enjoy it as she watches more TV than I do. Time will tell .

I haven't had cable in over five years. I get by just fine with an antenna box and Netflix/Amazon Prime. Sometimes I miss having NESN (Boston sports station), but content from most of the channels I watch (Comedy Central, etc.) is available online. I've never been a big on sitting down to watch the tube, though, unless there's a series we're watching... but lately the best ones have been on Netflix anyhow.

I have rokus on every tv with sling, Amazon prime, and Netflix. It's plenty.
If you get a roku stick get the new faster one, the old one does have a noticeable clunkiness to it.

They have cable TV sports at the two cigar lounges I go to.
No need for it at home. I can drink in peace and have a cigar, sort of hard to do at the house with the wife hovering around. I don't watch sports alone anyway, unless it's boxing or football. My roof-top antenna is still going strong after several years, cannot loop those cables too tightly though - solved that problem a while back.

Get the wife Netflix, she'll love it - probably end up watching it more than Sling!

No cable TV in my house for 10 years now. I miss some good stuff for sure especially since in my area you must have a basic cable TV contract to get other online streams. BUT I do get most of my entertainment from Netflix, MotoGP.com, and WSBK.com. My local bar carries all of the other sporting events like MLB NFL etc. So depending upon your needs it generally can be done.

I received the Roku box yesterday in the mail. I hooked it up this morning and it walked me through the setup. Very easy to do. Started playing around with it and finding it fairly easy to navigate. So far I have the following:
Sling TV $19.95 a month Sports package $5.00 a month. Hulu $7.95 Netflix free I'm using my sons account ![]() I have found my local news station and have not hooked up the OTA antenna yet. So basically 32.00 a month plus internet. Not bad at all. Picture quality so far has been amazing ! Have experienced a few buffering episodes lasting 1 - 2 seconds. If that is the worst I have to deal with I'm good .

I have been cable / satellite free for around 5 years. I use Netflix for most stuff, VUDU for newer movies, and chromecast for streaming other stuff from my computer. Total cost...just the Netflix, and a movie or two a month on VUDU...so under 15 bucks a month.

I'm free of cable !!!
This past Sunday I unhooked every cable box and on Monday my wife mailed them back to AT&T. Today in the mail I received three Roku streaming sticks. Hooked them up and they work great and are just as fast as the Roku 2 box. AT&T is hitting us for 60.00 a month for internet so I may have to shop around but I am happy with the streaming speed. So I'm basically at 100.00 a month vs. the 221.00 we were paying so a tidy savings of 1400.00 a year........not bad. I'm going to cut the AT&T cellphone plan also, currently paying 131.00 a month for my phone and the wifes. I just ordered/received a Google Fi cellphone. Next month I'll order one for my wife, we will end up saving aprox. 75.00 - 80.00 a month because we are low usage users. Everything is lining up for cost cutting to allow me to retire in about 18 months. Happy days are ahead !!!

Infomercials, stupid relationship drama (Cheesy sex problems), news written for idiots, formulaic cop dramas, Spanish shows and stupid pop culture (READ: Gay lifestyle) is all cable is good for.

My daughter informs me that the college kids know how to watch anything they want, via torrent sites. I don't want to know details.

When y'all cut the cord can you watch any news channels like Fox and CNN?
I'm a news and documentary junkie...not into movies. Presently paying $55+ per month for DirecTV.

You need Kodi. Then load TV Addons, then load Exodus. Thats all you need. Google/youtube has instructions on how to load it all.
