Anton Yelchin killed

ANTON Yelchin, a charismatic and rising actor best known for playing Chekov in the new Star Trek films, has died at the age of 27.
The actor’s friends reportedly went to his Los Angeles home at around 1am and found him pinned between his car and a brick mailbox, which was attached to a security gate.

Bloody hell, what a terrible way to die and for such a young bloke.

police said the car’s engine was still running when his body was discovered, and that the car was in neutral. The driveway was said to be on a fairly steep incline. It’s unclear why he got out of the car, but police do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances.

“It appears he momentarily exited his car and it rolled backward, causing trauma that led to his death

Seems like maybe he thought the ebrake was on and tried to stop it manually when it started rolling and by the time he realized the wall was there it was too late.

Parking brake situations can unfold very quickly and cause panic when you suddenly realize the vehicle is rolling. It's instinct to try to stop it any way you can, including w physical force. All that has to happen then is to lose your footing and you are dead.

I know of a similar situation where an older guy, (but not that much older than me), stepped out of his PU truck and it started rolling backwards. He tried to open the door and get one foot in to push the parking brake but the wheels were turned to the right so it backed over his foot and he went under. Dead. Just like that.

Horrible tragedy w this young guy. Just a freak accident but I can see exactly how it could happen.

I have the initials of a guy tattooed on my arm, same thing happened to him. I don't know him, but I was first on the scene and he ended up bleeding out in my arms. Big Dodge dually diesel, front tire went right over him as he got out after parking.

There was also a case here a few months ago, maybe a year. Lady reaching out of her car to put in the keypad code for the apartment parking lot gate, foot slipped off the brakes since she was stretching out of the car too far, car starts to roll forward and open door hits fence, pinning/crushing her in car door killing her.

CARS ARE REALLY HEAVY AND WILL MESS YOU UP LIKE NOTHING HAPPENED.

Mike, yours is the story I was thinking of. I just could not remember where I heard it. Good on you for doing what you could.

A Mob killing.

Seriously it's not that uncommon, having your own car roll back and run you over or crush you.

I had a similar situation happen to me. Pulled out of the garage only to realize I had left the interior door open. Pulled back in, put it in park and hopped out. Unfortunately I put it in reverse and was dragged by the car while I tried to push on the brake. It was only stopped by the center section between the two garage doors. I was between the truck and center section.

Ever since then, I've used the e brake.

Not the same but when I was a kid I knew two guys who were crushed under a car.
They jacked up the car and then used cement blocks to support the car. They failed and that was it.

Similar to these. Looking at them you'd think they would they'd be able to hold up the car easily

And they might if you stacked them like that and put a board on top. I had a parts car sitting on block like that for over five years.
But people stack them sideways so they have no shear strength in one dimension, and they collapse.

I'm really sorry about this kid passing. It's such a shame.

Very sad :-(

Could it have been from the confusing shifter in the Jeep?

Did Jeep's Recalled Gear Shifter Contribute To The Death Of Star Trek Actor Anton Yelchin? (Updating)

I was just talking about this with my son. He said "Cars are the most dangerous things we own".

Can't help but agree with him.

Wow that's terrible. I really like the new StarTrek films and he did a great job playing young Chekov.

I beg to differ.
Getting run over by your own car is a total Darwin move.
Kinda like getting run over by a friggin train. All ya gotta do is move off the tracks.

In a previous neighborhood, we had a teenage girl that was killed by her own car rolling back and over her. Happened about 2AM - never was determined exactly why/what happened. The worst thing was - the neighbor that heard something outside went to investigate - mistook the car involved as a different neighbors car - and walked right up to the real "parents" house, woke them up for help - so as not to involve the supposed parents of the child.
