Different brands work better for different people. Used to use Rockports a lot, now I wear SAS dress shoes to work. Ecco, Mephisto, Clarks are all pretty good. You may need to swap out the insoles for something that gives more support. I like Superfeet for that, maybe Spenco

Whole foot. Definitely swollen by at least half a size the end of the day. I had Dr. Scholl's Work insoles in an old pair of casual sneakers. But the soles of those were so worn, it was easy to understand why feet were hurting.

Moved to my Asics running sneakers. Excellent running shoes but not so great for standing and working in one place for a few hours.

MY lil Abner boots.
Bought them oversize to accept fat soxs. For a 3 week outside job east of the wall.....lotso snow. Bout 25 years ago.....still got em.
Gortex lined & water proof. Wolverine.....bless em.

Drop $50. Not $11.

I swear to God.

If I am wrong, I'll pay half for you.

Shaun...

FWIW one thing I have tried to do is to change socks and shoes every day at noon.

Especially on those long days when I will be on my feet more.

I try to come home for lunch every day which makes it easy to facilitate.

A fresh pair of socks alone can really make a difference and socks are cheap, compared to shoes.

+1

Some socks are also weaved to add support.

Fireman/Police 1/2 boot with zipper sides, available from Quartermaster online.

I bought a cheapo pair of black sketchers to beat around the yard in, and man are they comfortable . They have some kind of memory foam liner in them . Like you , I spend 10 hours a day on my feet on hard concrete .

Baz is really onto something. Lots of great shoes ideas but try some graduated compression socks. You'll be happy.

Tobra 07-01-2016 09:53 PM

You want support stockings if you are on your feet all day. You will be shocked how much better your feet and legs feel. The amount of compression is measured in mm Hg; get at least 15-20 mm ones to start, probably will like the 30 mm ones better. There are a few measurements you will need to get them to fit properly. Jobst or Juzo.

Dr Scholls insoles are pretty much crap. Superfeet, Spenco, Sof. Work on stretching out your calf muscles too.

Yeah, what the Doctor said. :)

I have Superfeet insoles in my Docs. I also have them in my pair of New Balance shoes.

Tobra 07-02-2016 06:59 AM

The guy that founded the company that makes Superfeet was a professor in the Biomechanics department when I went to school. He would cut off your tie if you showed up in his clinic wearing one

Excellent advice, thank you, I'll do some shopping.

Today I cut up a 928, was on my feet the entire day with worn out sneakers that fit loose. Feet are fine now. I think it's the standing in one place that's doing it.

Tobra 07-02-2016 06:38 PM

Probably more comfortable because the loose shoes don't get too tight when your feet swell up. With support stockings they won't swell as much. Ted would tell you life is too short to wear crummy shoes. Oh yeah, quality support stockings are pricey, but they will last a long time.

A930Rocket 07-02-2016 08:18 PM

Where can we buy support stockings?

Online?

Tobra 07-02-2016 09:56 PM

Online is not a bad way to go. Don't start off too high on the compression because you may not tolerate it. You will need a tape measure.
Jobst or Juzo are good. I did not search through the website tonight, but they have instructions for how to get the size right. You can often get them in drug stores, or even in department stores.

Don't get on a plane or take a long road trip in the car without wearing support stockings. Pulmonary embolism would be a rough way to go.

porsche4life 07-03-2016 12:41 AM

+1 on the compression socks. I got a pair when Thuy talked me into running a half marthon. 13.1 miles and no training and crappy shoes. Feet were fine. Rest of my body felt like crap, but feet were fine!
