Costco.....

I am totally impressed with Costco. When checking out with cashier there she told us that folks buy a lawn mower in spring and return it in the fall. Similarly a snowblower is bought in the fall and returned in the spring.

Return policy is amazing. Sister in law bought a freezer and it quit after 5 years. She returned it and they said do you want cash back or a new freezer?

Having said that I would think that prices would be higher for such items to cover the return policy. I have watched Costco stock price rise over the last couple of years and I think their business is very successful.

Have watched Future shop taken over by Best Buy. Buying a laptop at Best Buy their return policy/warranty is limited. So why would I not give more business to Costco?

Do you shop at Costco? If so what are your thoughts?

Sam's Club less BS.

No Sam's Club in Edmonton.

Joe Bob 07-08-2016 12:05 PM

Then Costco it is.

stevej37 07-08-2016 12:05 PM

Nope..they deal with below average brands and models.

I guess we are too close to Arkansas and the corporate center for Walt-Mart and Sam's. We have Sam's super centers all over the place. Not one Costco in sight anywhere.

They'll probably change that once management catches on with more data.

They changed the TV return policy. I assumed people bought one, had a viewing party, or finished a sports season or something, then returned it.

Costco is actually a good place to work at. They pay their employees a actually wage they can live on.

GWN7 07-08-2016 12:39 PM

And a $1.70 for a hot dog and a drink is a heck of a deal. :)

HardDrive 07-08-2016 12:55 PM

Love Costco.

Sam's has a similar deal. Nathan's hotdogs. I can take my wife to dinner and we each get a hot dog and she gets a large drink, I get water. $3.25 tax included.

It is a real romantic meal. :p

I don't know where else two people can have a meal for so little money. Then we can go buy some excellent fruit. They have very good fresh fruit.

And the best Poutine deal there is.

Seems like they bulk buy stuff that didn't sell from other retailers. Lots of low quality items amid the good deals.

I always shop at Costco. They seem to do a good vetting their products, and yes, their warranty extension program and return policy are great. They also have a good wine selection, prime steaks, etc.

However, what you mention above, with the lawn mower and snow blower is nothing short of stealing and I think it's absurd and taking advantage. There will always be low life people, for which the good people will be penalized.

Costco is a mixed bag, both quality and cost wise.
I like that the extended TV warranty actually ads to the factory time, plus the extra year they give you to start with, so you get a full 5 years.

The big thing I hate is going in for just milk and bread and coming out $500 later.

I love the USDA Prime steaks. I find the worst of humanity in their return line.

We have a membership paid for by my wife's company. I have to say compared to 15 years ago, I find them disappointing. It used to be that you could buy good stuff and save a ton of ka-ching. Today, it seems not so much. The supermarkets generally have better deals. Deals do pop-up once in a while but it is quite a hassle dealing with a store packed full of mentally challenged customers for onesy twosy type purchases. Oh and when it comes to their beer selection, I get more enjoyment out of drinking ram's piss. They have a car buying program which is interesting, however I've yet to see anything which is a good deal. Watching the old folks fight and riot over the end-cap food samples is entertaining though!

The supplier of the goods will eat the warrantied / returned items. They go straight back there. If you want to sell your stuff at Costco, be assured that you are going to do a LOT to get in with them, including signing up for a very generous return policy. And this is how it is possible, my friends ...

Just go there a week after Superbowl. Lots of tv returns along with tables, chair, chafing dishes...

Ronbo 07-08-2016 03:18 PM

Costco sells the best store bought guacamole I've found. Their coffee is good too.
